This European Standard specifies a method for the determination of formaldehyde in a water extract prepared from paper and board intended to come into contact with foodstuffs. For contact at room temperature, the cold water extraction method (see EN 645) is applied. For paper and board materials intended for boiling and hot filtering purposes, the hot water extraction method (see EN 647)is applied.

Diese Europäische Norm legt ein Verfahren für die Bestimmung von Formaldehyd im Wasserextrakt von Papier, Karton und Pappe fest, die für Kontakt mit Lebensmitteln vorgesehen sind. Für Kontakt bei Raumtemperatur ist der Kaltwasserextrakt (siehe EN 645) anzuwenden. Für Papier, Karton und Pappe, vorgesehen für Kochzwecke und für Heißfiltrationßwecke ist der Heißwasserextrakt (siehe EN 647) anzuwenden.
