Overview

EN 2267-007:2005 is a European Standard developed by the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) under the aerospace series framework. This standard specifies the requirements for the DMA family of electrical lightweight cables designed for general-purpose use in aircraft on-board systems. These cables are characterized by their ability to operate reliably within a wide temperature range from -55 °C up to 260 °C, with extended performance proven down to -65 °C under cold test conditions. A key feature of these cables is their single ink-jet printable insulation, enabling high-quality, reliable marking directly on the cable surface according to the requirements of EN 3838.

Key Topics

  • Scope and Purpose
Defines lightweight, ink-jet printable electrical cables for aerospace use, optimized for operating temperatures between -55 °C and 260 °C, suitable for on-board electrical systems in aircraft.

  • Materials and Construction

    • Conductors manufactured from copper or copper alloy with nickel plating as per EN 4434.
    • Insulation system consists of polyimide tape coated with fluorocarbon and layers of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) tapes, providing mechanical robustness and thermal resistance.
    • Cable cores can be single or multicore assemblies as specified in EN 2267-002 and EN 2235.
  • Electrical and Mechanical Requirements

    • Detailed compliance with tests including dimensional accuracy, ohmic resistance, insulation resistance, voltage proof, thermal ageing, cold bending, flammability, and tensile strength per EN 3475-100 test methods.
    • Special tests cover dynamic cut-through resistance, abrasion, torsion, and flexibility for different cable sizes.
  • Marking and Traceability
The cables must support qualified, compatible ink-jet marking that meets EN 3838, ensuring clear, durable identification for reliable installation tracing and maintenance.

  • Quality Assurance
Compliance with aerospace quality management procedures per EN 9133 ensures product reliability and conformity with aerospace industry demands.

Applications

  • Electrical wiring in commercial, military, and civil aircraft systems that demand high-temperature tolerance alongside lightweight construction for fuel-efficient, compact design.
  • On-board avionics, power distribution, communication, and control systems where cable performance directly impacts safety and functionality under thermal stress.
  • Aerospace environments requiring reliable, durable cable markings for maintenance, safety verification, and certification compliance.

Related Standards

  • EN 3838 – Defines the requirements and tests for user-applied markings on aircraft electrical cables, relevant to ink-jet printability and marking durability.
  • EN 2084 – Technical specifications for aerospace series single-core electrical cables.
  • EN 2235 – Technical specifications for single and multicore electrical cables including screening and jacketing.
  • EN 2267-002 – General specifications for aerospace electrical cables operating within the same temperature class.
  • EN 3475-100 – General test methods for aerospace electrical cables to ensure performance criteria such as resistance, durability, and safety.

Practical Value

EN 2267-007:2005 supports aerospace manufacturers and suppliers in selecting and producing reliable, lightweight electrical cables that withstand extreme temperatures encountered in flight conditions. Its detailed material, construction, and performance specifications ensure cables maintain electrical integrity and mechanical strength over long operational lifetimes, contributing to aircraft safety and maintenance efficiency. Ink-jet printability aligned with EN 3838 enhances traceability and reduces the risk of installation errors.

By adhering to this standard, aerospace industry stakeholders gain access to standardized lightweight cable solutions designed explicitly for harsh aerospace environments, simplifying compliance and reducing qualification overheads through harmonized testing and quality assurance methods.
