– lahek dinamični penetracijski poskus (DPL): preskus, ki predstavlja dinamično opremo v spodnjem delu masnega razpona;
– srednji dinamični penetracijski poskus (DPM): preskus, ki predstavlja srednje težko dinamično opremo;
– težek dinamični penetracijski poskus (DPH): preskus, ki predstavlja srednje do zelo težko dinamično opremo;

Overview
EN ISO 22476-2:2005/A1:2011 is an important international standard that defines the requirements, procedures, and reporting methods for dynamic probing in geotechnical investigations and testing. Developed by the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) in cooperation with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), this amendment (A1) updates the original 2005 standard to align with technological advances and international best practices. The standard applies primarily to field testing methods used to assess soil characteristics relevant to foundation construction, earthworks, and underground works.
Dynamic probing is a field test that involves driving a cone or probe into the ground through repeated hammer blows, with the number of blows per penetration depth providing key geotechnical data. This standard ensures consistent, reliable, and repeatable methods for conducting dynamic probing, reinforcing geotechnical test quality and safety.
Key Topics
Equipment Requirements: Specifies the design and calibration standards for dynamic probing tools, including rod straightness and energy verification for free-fall penetrometers to ensure accurate measurement of soil penetration resistance.
Execution Procedures: Details the correct methodologies for performing dynamic probing, including positioning of injection holes, allowable deviations in rod inclination (up to 5% vertical deviation), and continuous injection protocols at contaminated sites.
Measurement and Reporting: Establishes guidelines for recording blow counts without correction during testing and stipulates the need for sample identification and ground classification per ISO 22475-1, ISO 14688 (soil identification), and ISO 14689 (rock identification).
Quality Control: Includes specifications for equipment calibration, validation of rod straightness through rotation or rolling tests, and procedures to assess and report any deviations of the driving equipment from the vertical orientation exceeding 2%.
Safety and Compliance: Ensures adherence to international and European regulations, including EN 1997-1 and EN 1997-2, governing geotechnical investigation principles and site-specific safety and environmental standards.
Applications
EN ISO 22476-2:2005/A1:2011 is widely applied in the following domains:
Foundation Construction: Provides essential information about soil resistance, which informs foundation design, bearing capacity, and settlement predictions.
Earthworks and Excavations: Helps evaluate soil compaction and stability for excavation support, embankment construction, and ground improvement works.
Underground Construction: Enables safe planning and design of tunnels, shafts, and underground facilities by assessing soil layering and consistency.
Environmental Site Assessments: Assists in evaluating soil contamination impacts by prescribing injection protocols during dynamic probing at contaminated sites.
Geotechnical Site Investigation: Complements other sampling and testing methods to deliver a comprehensive understanding of ground conditions for civil engineering projects.
Related Standards
For a holistic approach to geotechnical investigation and testing, EN ISO 22476-2:2005/A1:2011 should be used in conjunction with:
ISO 22475-1: Technical principles for soil sampling methods and groundwater measurements, critical for accurate ground material identification during probing.
ISO 14688 (all parts): Identification and classification of soil to interpret dynamic probing results effectively.
ISO 14689 (all parts): Identification and classification of rock, supporting interpretation of penetration resistance in rocky strata.
EN 1997-1 and EN 1997-2: Eurocode standards on geotechnical design and investigation principles, which specify performance requirements that dynamic probing results must fulfill.
ISO/IEC Directives Part 2: Framework for drafting and implementing international standards including those for geotechnical testing.
Practical Value
Implementing EN ISO 22476-2:2005/A1:2011 ensures:
Consistency: Harmonized dynamic probing test procedures increase comparability of site investigation results internationally.
Accuracy: Defined equipment calibration and measurement methods reduce errors and improve data reliability.
Compliance: Alignment with European and international regulations enables smooth approval processes and reduces legal risks.
Safety: Prescribed limits on rod inclination and monitoring during testing mitigate risks related to equipment misuse and environmental contamination.
Efficiency: Clear reporting and documentation protocols streamline data analysis and decision-making in geotechnical projects.
In summary, this updated standard is vital for engineers, geotechnical consultants, and testing agencies aiming for industry-leading quality in dynamic probing tests for soil and rock investigations.

Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies
(ISO member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO
technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been
established has the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and
non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely with the
International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization.
International Standards are drafted in accordance with the rules given in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2.
