Fine ceramics (advanced ceramics, advanced technical ceramics) - Rockwell indentation test for evaluation of adhesion of ceramic coatings (ISO 26443:2023)

This document specifies a method for the qualitative evaluation of the adhesion of ceramic coatings up to 20 μm thick by indentation with a Rockwell diamond indenter. The formation of cracks after indentation can also reveal cohesive failure. The indentations are made with a Rockwell hardness test instrument.
The method described in this document can also be suitable for evaluating the adhesion of metallic coatings.
The test is not suitable for elastic coatings on hard substrates.

Hochleistungskeramik - Rockwell-Eindringprüfung zur Bewertung der Haftung von keramischen Schichten (ISO 26443:2023)

Dieses Dokument legt ein Verfahren zur qualitativen Bewertung der Haftung keramischer Schichten mit einer Dicke von bis zu 20 µm durch Erzeugung von Eindrücken mit einem Rockwell Diamant Eindringkörper fest. Die Bildung von Rissen am Eindruck kann auch ein Kohäsionsversagen erkennen lassen. Die Eindrücke werden mit einem Rockwell Härteprüfgerät erzeugt.
Das in diesem Dokument beschriebene Verfahren kann auch zur Bewertung der Haftung metallischer Schichten geeignet sein.
Diese Prüfung ist für elastische Schichten auf harten Grundwerkstoffen nicht geeignet.

Céramiques techniques - Évaluation de l'adhérence des revêtements céramiques par l'essai de pénétration Rockwell (ISO 26443:2023)

Le présent document spécifie une méthode permettant l’évaluation qualitative de l’adhérence de revêtements céramiques jusqu’à 20 μm d’épaisseur par indentation à l’aide d’un pénétrateur diamanté de Rockwell. La formation de fissures après l’indentation peut également révéler une rupture cohésive. Les indentations sont réalisées à l’aide d’un instrument d’essai de dureté Rockwell.
La méthode décrite dans le présent document peut également être adaptée à l’évaluation de l’adhérence de revêtements métalliques.
L’essai n’est pas adapté aux revêtements élastiques sur des substrats durs.

Standard ISO 26443:2008 določa metodo za kakovostno ovrednotenje sprijemnosti keramičnih prevlek debeline do 20 µm z vtiskanjem z Rockwellovo diamantno preskusno konico. Nastanek razpok po vtiskanju lahko razkriva tudi kohezivno napako. Vtiskanje se izvede z Rockwellovim instrumentom za preskušanje trdote.
Opisana metoda je lahko primerna tudi za ovrednotenje sprijemnosti kovinskih prevlek.
Preskus ni primeren za elastične prevleke na trdih substratih.

This document (EN ISO 26443:2023) has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 206 "Fine
ceramics" in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 184 “Advanced technical ceramics” the
secretariat of which is held by DIN.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an
identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by May 2024, and conflicting national standards shall be
withdrawn at the latest by May 2024.
