(Main)Intelligent transport systems - ESafety - ECall end to end conformance testing
Intelligent transport systems - ESafety - ECall end to end conformance testing
This European Standard defines the key actors in the eCall chain of service
provision as:
1) In-Vehicle System (IVS)/vehicle,
2) Mobile network Operator (MNO),
3) Public safety assistance point [provider](PSAP), in some circumstances may also
involve:
4) Third Party Service Provider (TPSP), and to provide conformance tests for actor
groups 1) - 4).
NOTE Conformance tests are not appropriate nor required for vehicle occupants,
although they are the recipient of the service. The Scope covers conformance
testing (and approval) of new engineering developments, products and systems,
and does not imply testing associated with individual installations in vehicles or
locations.
Inteligentni transportni sistemi - e-Varnost - Preskušanje skladnosti e-klica v zvezi pošiljatelj-prejemnik

The standard EN 16454:2015 provides a comprehensive framework for ensuring the functionality and reliability of the eCall system within intelligent transport systems. By clearly defining the roles of key actors in the eCall chain of service provision-including the In-Vehicle System (IVS)/vehicle, Mobile Network Operator (MNO), and Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP)-the standard enhances understanding and coordination among the various stakeholders involved in emergency response. One of the notable strengths of this standard lies in its focus on conformance testing for these actor groups. The inclusion of testing protocols for both new engineering developments and existing products ensures that all components of the eCall system meet strict safety and performance criteria prior to deployment. This proactive approach is critical in maintaining high-quality service and ensuring that response times are minimized during emergencies. Furthermore, the relevance of EN 16454:2015 cannot be overstated, especially as the integration of technology in vehicles continues to evolve. As the standard covers the conformity of various systems and products, it plays a vital role in advancing public safety initiatives through enhanced technical readiness. By not including conformance tests for individual vehicle occupants, the standard appropriately focuses on the systems that facilitate the eCall service, ensuring that the operational aspects are robust without overstepping into areas that do not require such rigorous checks. Overall, the EN 16454:2015 standard effectively establishes a clear and structured methodology for evaluating eCall systems, ensuring that all participants in the service chain are adequately prepared to deliver timely and effective assistance during emergencies. The well-defined scope and testing requirements position this standard as a critical component in the advancement of intelligent transport systems and public safety measures across Europe.
