This document specifies a laboratory method of determining the open assembly time in standard climate (20 ± 2) °C and (65 ± 5) % relative humidity (hereafter climate [20/65]).
This document is intended to determine the open assembly time using a defined procedure for obtaining a reliable base for comparison of open assembly time between adhesives under referenced conditions.
The method gives a result that cannot be applied to the safe manufacture of timber structures without taking into account the influence of factors such as timber density, moisture content, factory temperature and relative air humidity.

Dieses Dokument legt ein Laborverfahren zur Bestimmung der offenen Wartezeit in einem Normalklima (20 ± 2) °C und (65 ± 5) % relative Luftfeuchte (nachstehend Normalklima [20/65]) fest.
Dieses Dokument dient zur Bestimmung der offenen Wartezeit unter Anwendung eines festgelegten Verfahrens, um eine zuverlässige Grundlage zum Vergleich der offenen Wartezeiten verschiedener Klebstoffe bei Referenzbedingungen zu schaffen.
Das Verfahren führt zu einem Ergebnis, das für die sichere Herstellung von Holzbauteilen nur unter Berücksichtigung der Einflussfaktoren, wie z. B. Rohdichte/Feuchtegehalt des Holzes, Werkstemperatur und relative Luftfeuchte, zugrunde gelegt werden kann.

Le présent document spécifie une méthode de détermination en laboratoire du temps d’assemblage ouvert sous un climat normal de (20 ± 2) °C et (65 ± 5) % d’humidité relative (ci-après climat [20/65]).
Le présent document est destiné à déterminer le temps d’assemblage ouvert en utilisant un mode opératoire défini afin d’obtenir une base fiable de comparaison des temps d’assemblage ouvert de différents adhésifs dans des conditions de référence.
La méthode conduit à un résultat qui ne peut pas être utilisé pour une fabrication sûre des structures en bois sans tenir compte de l’influence de facteurs tels que la masse volumique du bois, sa teneur en humidité, la température de l’usine et l’humidité relative de l’air.

This document (prEN 15416-4:2024) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 193
“Adhesives”, the secretariat of which is held by UNE.
This document is currently submitted to the CEN enquiry.
This document will supersede EN 15416-4:2017.
This document includes the following significant technical changes with respect to EN 15416-4:2017:
a) terms and definitions for glue line added;
b) determination of glue line thickness in 6.3 described in more detail;
c) expression of glue line thickness added as 7.3;
d) different spread rates and glue line thicknesses considered in the requirement in Clause 8.

Introduction
This document is one of a series dealing with adhesives for use with timber structures, and is published
in support of the EN 1995 series, Eurocode 5: Design of timber structures. The series consists of five
classification and performance requirements for adhesives for load-bearing timber structures, phenolic
and aminoplastic adhesives (EN 301), one component polyurethane adhesives (EN 15425), emulsion
polymer isocyanate adhesives (EN 16254), two component epoxy and polyurethane adhesives for glued
in rods (EN 17334) and for on-site repair of cracked timber structures (EN 17418) and all together twelve
test methods (EN 302-1, EN 302-2, EN 302-3, EN 302-4, EN 302-5, EN 302-6, EN 302-7 and EN 302-8 and
EN 15416-1, EN 15416-3, EN 15416-4 and EN 15416-5).
