VDF/HFP, VDF/TFE, VDF/TFE/HFP)
– odstotek polimera v disperziji

Overview
EN ISO 20568-1:2017 (CEN adoption of ISO 20568-1:2017) defines a standardized designation system for fluoropolymer dispersions and moulding and extrusion materials. The standard provides a structured way to identify and classify fluoropolymers (e.g., PTFE, PFA, FEP, PVDF, ETFE) using a multi-part designation that can be used as the basis for material specifications. It applies to unmodified materials and to formulations modified by additives, colorants, fillers or reinforcements.
Key topics and requirements
- Designation architecture: Materials are described using an identity block and an individual-item block subdivided into five data blocks (1 to 5). The individual-item block begins with a hyphen and uses commas to separate data blocks.
- Data block contents:
- Data block 1: Polymer identification (abbreviated term per ISO 1043-1) and composition symbols (e.g., PTFE, PFA, PVDF).
- Data block 2: Fillers or reinforcing materials and nominal content.
- Data block 3: Intended application and/or processing method, plus important properties, additives and supplementary information.
- Data block 4: Designatory properties - specific measurable attributes used to differentiate materials.
- Data block 5: Information required for formal specifications (used when defining contractual or test requirements).
- Designatory properties detailed (selected examples):
- For PTFE granular and ram-extrusion resins: standard specific gravity (SSG), bulk density, particle size.
- For PTFE dispersions: PTFE % in dispersion, surfactant %, surfactant tolerance.
- For melt-processable resins (CPT, ETFE, FEP, PFA, PVDF, etc.): melting peak temperature, melt mass-flow rate (MFR).
- For PCTFE: zero-strength time (ZST); for some copolymers: glass transition temperature (Tg).
- Scope limitations: The standard provides the designation framework; it does not supply engineering performance data or processing conditions. Where test methods are needed, ISO 20568-2 and other referenced standards (ISO 1133-1, ISO 11357 series, ISO 1043-1) are used.
Applications and users
Who uses EN ISO 20568-1:2017:
- Materials engineers and R&D teams for consistent polymer identification.

- Procurement/specification writers and suppliers to unambiguously describe fluoropolymer grades.
- Regulatory and compliance professionals who need standardized material descriptions.
Practical uses:

Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards
bodies (ISO member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out
through ISO technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical
committee has been established has the right to be represented on that committee. International
organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work.
ISO collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of
electrotechnical standardization.
The procedures used to develop this document and those intended for its further maintenance are
described in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 1. In particular the different approval criteria needed for the
different types of ISO documents should be noted. This document was drafted in accordance with the
editorial rules of the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2 (see www .iso .org/ directives).

Plastics — Fluoropolymer dispersions and moulding and
extrusion materials —
Part 1:
Designation system and basis for specifications
1 Scope
This document establishes a system of designation for fluoropolymer materials, which may be used as
the basis for specifications.
The various types of fluoropolymer are differentiated from each other by a classification system based
on appropriate levels of the designatory properties and on information about the intended application
and/or method of processing, important properties, additives, colorants, fillers and reinforcing
materials.
For polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)
For PTFE granular moulding and ram extrusion materials, and for PTFE resin produced from
coagulation of dispersion:
— standard specific gravity (SSG)
— bulk density
— particle size
For aqueous dispersion of PTFE
— PTFE percentage in dispersion
— surfactant percentage in dispersion
— surfactant tolerance level
For melt processable resins
For CPT, ECTFE, EFEP, ETFE, FEP, PFA, PVDF, PVF, VDF/CTFE, VDF/HFP, VDF/TFE, VDF/TFE/HFP
— melting-peak temperature
— melt mass-flow rate
For PCTFE
— zero-strength time (ZST)
For TFE/PDD
— glass transition temperature (T )
g
For aqueous dispersion of melt processable resins (ETFE, FEP, PFA, PVDF, PVF, VDF/CTFE,
VDF/HFP, VDF/TFE, VDF/TFE/HFP)
— polymer percentage in dispersion
— surfactant percentage in dispersion
ISO 20568-1:2017(E)
— surfactant tolerance level
The designation system is applicable to all fluoropolymers and blends. It applies to unmodified materials
ready for normal use and materials modified, for example, by colorants, additives, fillers, reinforcing
materials and polymer modifiers.
It is not intended to imply that materials having the same designation give necessarily the same
performance. This document does not provide engineering data, performance data or data on processing
conditions which may be required to specify a material. If such additional properties are required, they
are intended to be determined in accordance with the test methods specified in ISO 20568-2, if suitable.
In order to specify a thermoplastic material for a particular specification, the requirements are to be
given in data block 5 (see 4.1).

4 Designation and specification system
4.1 General
The designation system for thermoplastics is based on the following standard pattern:
Designation
Identity block

Standard
Data Data Data Data Data
(optional)
number
block block block block block
block
1 2 3 4 5
The designation consists of an optional description block, reading “Thermoplastics”, and an identity
block comprising the International Standard number and an individual-item block. For unambiguous
designation, the individual-item block is subdivided into five data blocks comprising the following
information:
— Data block 1: Identification of the plastic by its abbreviated term for the fluoropolymer as listed in
Table 1 and information about the composition of the polymer (see Table 1 and Table 2).
— Data block 2: Fillers or reinforcing materials and their nominal content (see 4.3).
ISO 20568-1:2017(E)
— Data block 3: Position 1: Intended application and/or method of processing (see 4.4).
Positions 2 to 8: Important properties, additives and supplementary information (see 4.4).
— Data block 4: Designatory properties (see 4.5).
— Data block 5: For the purpose of specifications, the fifth data block contains appropriate information
(see 4.6).
The first character of the individual-item block shall be a hyphen. The data blocks shall be separated
from each other by a comma.
If a data block is not used, this shall be indicated by doubling the separation sign, i.e. by two commas (,,).
NOTE Data blocks 1 and 2 together form the part marking symbol.
4.2 Data block 1
In this data block, fluoropolymers are identified by the abbreviated term in accordance with ISO 1043-1
(supplemented by the abbreviated term listed in Table 1) and, after a hyphen, a symbol indicating the
additional information as specified in Table 2.
