Overview
EN 1307:2014+A1:2016/prA3 is a CEN standard that defines the classification of textile floor coverings and carpet tiles (excluding rugs and runners) into use classes. The classification addresses performance with respect to wear, appearance retention, additional performance properties, and luxury rating. The prA3 item (draft amendment submitted March 2018) updates normative references and specific test requirements related to peel/delamination resistance.
Key topics and technical requirements
- Scope: Applies to all textile floor coverings and carpet tiles; rugs and runners are excluded (see ISO 2424).
- Use classes: Classification of products into use classes follows the definitions given in EN ISO 10874.
- Performance properties assessed:
- Wear resistance
- Appearance retention
- Additional performance properties (as applicable to product type)
- Classes for luxury rating
- Normative references updated (prA3): Replaces EN ISO 24345 with ISO 11857 – Textile floor coverings: Determination of resistance to delamination.
- Peel/delamination requirement (amendment): Table 3 of Clause 6 is modified so that the peel resistance test method is ISO 11857, with a minimum requirement of ≥ 40 N per 50 mm for the carpet types indicated (as specified in the table).
- Compliance approach: Manufacturers and test laboratories use the referenced test methods and the EN ISO 10874 classification scheme to assign a product to the appropriate use class.
Applications and users
This standard is practical for:
- Flooring manufacturers - to classify products and demonstrate conformity for marketing and technical documentation.
- Product testing laboratories - to perform required tests (including ISO 11857 for delamination) for certification or internal QA.
- Architects, specifiers, and procurement teams - to select suitable textile floor coverings based on use class for residential, commercial, or industrial projects.
- Installers and facility managers - to understand durability and maintenance implications related to classification and peel resistance.
- Regulatory bodies and certification schemes - for harmonized assessment and comparison of textile flooring performance across Europe.
