Durability of wood and wood-based products - Accelerated ageing of treated wood prior to biological testing - Leaching procedure
This document specifies a method for leaching, applicable to test specimens of wood or wood-based products which are subsequently subjected to biological tests.
This document is applicable to:
a) the pre-conditioning of test specimens prior to their being subjected to a biological test; or
b) assessment of loss of effectiveness by comparing the performance in a biological test of treated test specimens subjected to this procedure with others that have not undergone any leaching procedure.
NOTE The method can also be used for pre-conditioning of untreated wood, modified wood and wood-based panel products, whether they received preservative treatment or not.

Dieses Dokument legt ein Verfahren zur Auswaschbeanspruchung fest, das für Prüfkörper aus Holz oder Holzprodukten anwendbar ist, die anschließend biologischen Prüfungen unterzogen werden.
Dieses Dokument ist anwendbar:
a) zur Vorbehandlung von Prüfkörpern vor einer biologischen Prüfung; oder
b) um eine mögliche Abnahme einer Wirksamkeit zu erfassen, indem bei einer biologischen Prüfung von behandelten Prüfkörpern die Eigenschaften von Prüfkörpern, die einem solchen Verfahren ausgesetzt waren, mit Eigenschaften jener Prüfkörper verglichen werden, die keiner Auswaschbeanspruchung ausgesetzt waren.
ANMERKUNG Dieses Verfahren kann auch zur Vorbehandlung von unbehandeltem Holz, modifiziertem Holz und Holzwerkstoff-Produkten mit oder ohne Zusatz von Holzschutzmitteln verwendet werden.

Le présent document spécifie une méthode de délavage, applicable aux éprouvettes de bois et de panneaux à base de bois qui sont ultérieurement soumises à des essais biologiques.
Le présent document est applicable pour :
a) le préconditionnement des éprouvettes avant leur soumission ultérieure à un essai biologique ; ou
b) l'évaluation de la perte de l'efficacité par comparaison dans un essai biologique, de la performance des éprouvettes traitées soumises à cette épreuve par rapport à d'autres n'ayant subi aucune épreuve de délavage.
NOTE La méthode peut aussi être utilisée pour le préconditionnement du bois non traité, du bois modifié et des panneaux à base de bois qu’ils aient ou non reçu un traitement avec un produit de préservation.

This document (EN 84:2020) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 38 “Durability of wood
and wood-based products”, the secretariat of which is held by AFNOR.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an
identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by February 2021, and conflicting national standards shall
be withdrawn at the latest by February 2021.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of
patent rights. CEN shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.
This document supersedes EN 84:1997. Data using the 1997 edition of EN 84 may still be used.
Compared to EN 84:1997 the following modifications have been made:
— change of title;
— inclusion of untreated wood, modified wood and wood-based panel products in the Scope;
— addition of Clause 3 Terms and definitions, and renumbering of subsequent clauses and cross-
references;
— inclusion of a statement regarding the maximum period of time permitted between the completion
of the leaching procedure and the start of the biological test;
— inclusion of a requirement that this period of time be stated in the biological test report.
According to the CEN-CENELEC Internal Regulations, the national standards organisations of the
following countries are bound to implement this European Standard: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia,
