Metal components of drawers, shall be joined by welding or gluing with a structural adhesive. All drawers shall incorporate a latch or other positive means to prevent drawers opening in heavy seas. All drawers shall be furnished with a means for pulling drawers open. Each drawer shall have a pair of drawer tracks with one drawer track on each of its sides. Load test and tilt test shall be performed to conform with the specified requirements. Drawers shall be made to a size that suits the furniture item that supports them.

This specification covers the construction of steel furniture tops for use where invoked by other marine furniture specifications. Tops shall be of the following types: type I - top on which the edge binder is flush with the top and the substrate material is steel; type II - top on which the edge binder projects above the upper surface of the top to act as a lee rail and the substrate material is steel; type III - top on which a lee rail is applied to the upper surface of the finished top, the top has a self edge securely bonded to the finished top, and the substrate material is a particle or mineral board core; and type IV - top is an insert panel and the edge binder is an integral part of the supporting furniture unit. Tops shall be of the following grades: grade 1 - substrate material and edge reinforcements for types I, II, and IV, and grade 2 - substrate material is a particle or mineral board core with a minimum density of 45 lb/ft3.

Standard Practice for Piping System Drawing Symbols

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
2.1 Fig. 1 provides symbols for strainers, separators, and filters.  
2.2 Fig. 2 provides symbols for valves. Valves are categorized under the following headings: globe, angle, check, ball, butterfly, gate, relief, manifolds, control, noise control, and miscellaneous.  
2.3 Fig. 3 provides symbols for valve appendages such as actuators and locking devices. Symbols shown on Fig. 3 are to be combined with the appropriate symbol from Fig. 2.  
2.4 Fig. 4 provides symbols for piping system–related instrumentation. These symbols are categorized under the following headings: pressure, temperature, flow, level, switches, alarms, and miscellaneous.  
2.5 Fig. 5 provides symbols for fans, pumps, and turbines.  
2.6 Fig. 6 provides symbols for plumbing components.  
2.7 Fig. 7 provides symbols for pipe and pipe fittings.  
2.8 Fig. 8 provides symbols for noise control components and designations. These symbols are generally used for submarine design.  
2.9 Fig. 9 provides symbols for transitions. These symbols identify transitions such as pipe material or pipe schedule changes.  
2.10 Fig. 10 provides symbols for miscellaneous components. These are components which could not be classified under the above categories. Examples include heat exchangers, flasks, and sea chests.  
2.11 Fig. 11 provides symbols for grooved piping.
SCOPE
1.1 This practice establishes piping system drawing symbols for marine use.  
1.2 This set of standard symbols is intended for use on piping system diagrammatics and arrangements for ships.  
1.3 Where graphical symbols are required for an item or equipment not covered by this practice, the form and character of the symbol will be left to the discretion of the activity concerned, provided that the symbol used does not duplicate any of those contained herein, and is clearly understandable, subject to one interpretation only, or explained by a suitable note on the drawing when necessary.  
1.4 Since symbolic representation does not usually involve exact or scale layout or the actual run or leads of piping, the same symbol may be used for all projections of the system (plan, elevations, and sections).  
1.5 Symbols for fluid power, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), and Navy damage control diagrams are not included in this practice.

ABSTRACT
This specification covers single- and double compression and self-closing faucets for shipboard plumbing installations. Faucets may be classified into nine types: Type I is the standard (bibb) with three classes namely Class A (compression, plain end), Class B (compression, hose end), and Class C (self-closing); Type II is a lavatory, self-closing, low spout faucet with two classes which are Class A (fast-closing) and Class B (slow-closing, depression type); Type III is a folding lavatory,self-closing faucet; Type IV is an elbow operated faucet, Type V is a faucet with lavatory, combination water supply and drain fixture; Type VI is a faucet with combination supply fixture swing spout for use on galley sinks; Type VII is a faucet with single supply fixture swing spout for use with steam kettles and urns and this type has two classes namely Class A which has spout for overhead supply and Class B which has spout for riser supply; Type VIII is a faucet with supply fixture for pressed metal and shock mounted china lavatories; and Type IX which is a faucet with lavatory and combination of water supply and drain fixtures. Faucet bodies shall be made of bronze and handles shall be of commercial grade cast or forged brass or bronze. Bonnets, handwheels, and nuts shall be of commercial quality brass or bronze; machine screws shall be made of commercial brass. Seat washers shall be of a rubber or fiber material and suitable for a certain water temperature range without deterioration of material. Springs for self-closing faucets shall be of corrosionresisting steel, phosphor bronze, or nickel copper. All samples shall be subjected to a hydrostatic test.
