IEC 63267-2-1:2024 defines a set of specified conditions for an enhanced macro bend of 50/125 µm, graded index multimode fibre optic connection that is maintained in order to satisfy the requirements of attenuation and return loss performance in a randomly mated pair of polished physically contacting (PC) fibres. An encircled flux (EF) compliant launch condition in accordance with IEC 61300-1, at an operational wavelength of 850 nm, is used for determination of performance grades, based on lateral fibre core offset, numerical aperture (NA) mismatch, and fibre core diameter (CD) variation. Fibre core angular offset is considered insignificant given the state-of-the-art and is excluded as a factor for attenuation estimation. Attenuation and return loss performance grades are defined in IEC 63267-1.

IEC 63267-2-2:2024 defines the dimensional limits of an optical interface for reference connections necessary to meet specific requirements for fibre-to-fibre interconnection of non-angled and angled polished multimode reference connectors intended to be used for attenuation measurements in the field or factory. Several grades of reference connections are defined in this document. The multimode reference connections are terminated to restricted IEC 60793-2-10 A1-OM2b to A1-OM5b fibre at the 850 nm band only. The geometrical dimensions and tolerances of the specified reference connections have been developed primarily to limit the variation in measured attenuation between multiple sets of two reference connectors, and therefore to limit the variation in measured attenuation between randomly chosen reference connectors when mated with connectors in the field or factory.

This part of IEC 61300 details a procedure to determine the suitability of a fibre optic interconnecting device, passive component, splices or closure to withstand the environmental condition of extended high temperature that occur during operation, storage and/or transport. The test is intended to indicate the performance of such devices when exposed to heat of constant temperature over a given period. In general terms, this test provides a high temperature to induce potential failures due to softening and expansions. This procedure does not assess the ability of a device to operate during temperature variations; in this case, IEC 61300-2-22 is used.

IEC 61300-3-35:2022 is concerned with the observation and classification of debris, scratches and defects. The inspection requirements are based on IEC TR 62627-05. Advice for cleaning of contamination from fibres/ferrule is found in IEC TR 62627-01 and a recommendation is given in Annex D. IEC TR 62572-4 provides the cleaning method for a stub for optical transceivers. Visual inspection is in addition to, and does not replace measurement of performance parameters such as attenuation and return loss, or end face parameters. The dimensions specified are chosen such that they can be easily estimated. Not only the zones A and B on the fibre are inspected for defects and scratches but the whole contact area (where the two fibres/ferrules meet when mated) needs to be inspected for contamination (this is up to 250 µm diameter for cylindrical ferrules and the whole ferrule surface for rectangular ferrules).The objectives of this document are the following: - specify the minimum criteria for a microscope to be compliant to this document; - specify the procedure and criteria for inspecting fibre-optic end faces for cleanliness to determine if the end faces are fit for use. All connector optical interfaces (IEC 61755 series and IEC 63267 series) are based on physical contact between fibre cores; - provide quantitative criteria for the analysis of end face images. This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition published in 2015. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition: - adding of a statement that visual inspection is not a substitute for optical qualification such as attenuation and return loss measurement; - adding of some terms and definitions; - adding requirements for SM 35 dB connectors; - adding of a sentence in Clause 5 concerning the susceptibility of the methods to system variability and variability within systems from same supplier; - removal of inspection requirements for zones C and D; - insertion of a generic cleanliness specification for whole rectangular ferrule and 250 µm area around every fibre; - adding a cleaning recommendation for rectangular and cylindrical ferrules; - outer edge of inspection zone B has changed from 115 µm to 110 µm to meet manufacturing tolerances of fixture for microscopes; - change that defects that are partly in core are only to be judged for the part they are in the core. The remainder of the defect is considered to be located in the cladding. - adding a statement that a connector cannot be rejected by just failing visual inspection. Meeting the specified optical performance determines the use of this connector.

This first edition cancels and replaces IEC 61753-053-2 published in 2014. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to IEC 61753-053-2:2014: a) harmonization of terms and definitions with those in IEC 60869-1 and IEC TS 62627-09; b) harmonization of test items and their conditions with IEC 61753‑1:2018 and IEC 61753‑1:2018/AMD1:2020.

IEC 61755-3-2:2024 defines the dimensional limits of the optical interface that are necessary for single-mode fibre optic connectors with 2,5 mm or 1,25 mm diameter cylindrical zirconia (ZrO2) ferrules polished at an 8° angle to meet the specific requirements for fibre-to-fibre interconnection, as defined in IEC 61755-2-2. Ferrules made from the material specified in this standard are suitable for use in all the operating service environments defined in IEC 61753-1. Ferrule dimensions and features are contained in the IEC 61754 series of fibre optic connector interface standards. This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition published in 2006. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition: a) normative references have been added; b) The introduction of an additional optical interface with a different fibre core eccentricity profile. The previous revision of optical interface standard is named "Variant 1: with fibre core axis oriented towards the connector guide key". The additional optical interface is named "Variant 2: with fibre core axis not oriented towards the connector guide key"; c) statements added related to interoperability, where both variants remain intermateable within a given performance grade and are fully backwards compatible to IEC 61755-3-2:2006; d) The addition of Grade B and Grade C interface requirements for both variants; f) The addition of a descriptive statistic for the mean fibre core eccentricity (mean value) to describe the distribution of fibre core eccentricity to ensure interoperability; g) A new informative Annex B to give guidance on the expected attenuation when mated to a reference connector plug; h) A new informative Annex D to give guidance related to estimation of mean fibre eccentricity limits for finite production batch sizes.

IEC 61753-051-02:2022 contains the minimum initial test and measurement requirements and severities which plug-receptacle style single-mode fibre fixed optical attenuators need to satisfy in order to be categorized as meeting the requirements of category C – Controlled environments, as defined in IEC 61753-1:2018, Annex A. This first edition cancels and replaces IEC 61753-051-3 published in 2013. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to IEC 61753‑051‑3:2013:
change the category from U to C and the test items and their conditions according to IEC 61753-1;
change the requirements reflecting the survey results.

This part of IEC 61300-3 describes methods available to measure the wavelength dependence of attenuation and return loss of two port, single mode passive optical components. It is not, however, applicable to dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) devices. Measurement methods of wavelength dependence of attenuation of DWDM devices are described in IEC 61300-3-29. There are two measurement cases described in this standard: a) Measurement of attenuation only; b) Measurement of attenuation and return loss at the same time.

This part of IEC 61300 provides general information and guidance for the basic test and measurement procedures defined in the IEC 61300-2 series and IEC 61300-3 series for interconnecting devices, passive components, mechanical splices, fusion splice protectors, fibre management systems and protective housings. This standard is used in combination with the relevant specification which defines the tests to be used, the required degree of severity for each of them, their sequence, if relevant, and the permissible performance limits. In the event of conflict between this basic standard and the relevant specification, the latter takes precedence.
