Frequently Asked Questions
CEN/TC 88/WG 6 is a Working Group within the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). It is named "Rigid cellular polyurethane and polyisocyanurate" and is responsible for: To draft a standard with specifications for factory made rigid polyurethane foam (PUR) products. This committee has published 6 standards.
CEN/TC 88/WG 6 develops CEN standards. The scope of work includes: To draft a standard with specifications for factory made rigid polyurethane foam (PUR) products. Currently, there are 6 published standards from this working group.
The European Committee for Standardization (CEN) is a public standards organization that brings together the national standardization bodies of 34 European countries. CEN provides a platform for developing European Standards (ENs) and other technical documents in relation to various products, materials, services, and processes, supporting the European Single Market.
A Working Group in CEN is a specialized group responsible for developing standards or technical work within a defined scope. These bodies bring together international experts to create consensus-based standards that support global trade, safety, and interoperability.
This European Standard specifies the requirements for factory made rigid polyurethane foam (PU) products, with or without facings or coatings, which are used for the thermal insulation of buildings. PU includes both PIR and PUR products. The products are manufactured in the form of boards.
This European Standard includes PU multi-layered insulation products, see Annex D.
Products covered by this standard are also used in prefabricated thermal insulation systems and composite insulation products; the performance of systems incorporating these products is not covered.
This standard describes product characteristics and includes procedures for testing, evaluation of conformity, marking and labelling.
This standard does not specify the required level of a given property to be achieved by a product to demonstrate fitness for purpose in a particular application. The levels required for a given application are to be found in regulations or non-conflicting standards.
Products with a declared thermal resistance lower than 0,25 m2⋅K/W or a declared thermal conductivity greater than 0,060 W/(m⋅K) at 10 °C are not covered by this European Standard.
This standard does not cover in situ insulation products and products intended to be used for the insulation of building equipment and industrial installations (covered by EN 14308).

This European Standard specifies the requirements for factory made products of polyurethane rigid foam, with or without facings or coatings and with or without integral reinforcement, which are used for the thermal insulation of buildings. The products are manufactured in the form of boards. The standard also covers multilayered products and composite insulation products, laminates and cladding panels in which polyurethane rigid foam is the main insulant. The standard describes product characteristics and includes procedures for testing, marking and labelling.
