CEN/TC 289/WG 6 is a Working Group within the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). It is named "Test methods for tannery chemicals" and is responsible for: to develop analytical methods for chemicals used in the tanning industry This committee has published 4 standards.
CEN/TC 289/WG 6 develops CEN standards in the area of Information technology. The scope of work includes: to develop analytical methods for chemicals used in the tanning industry Currently, there are 4 published standards from this working group.
The European Committee for Standardization (CEN) is a public standards organization that brings together the national standardization bodies of 34 European countries. CEN provides a platform for developing European Standards (ENs) and other technical documents in relation to various products, materials, services, and processes, supporting the European Single Market.
A Working Group in CEN is a specialized group responsible for developing standards or technical work within a defined scope. These bodies bring together international experts to create consensus-based standards that support global trade, safety, and interoperability.
This document specifies a method for determining the total content of the following cyclosiloxanes in chemicals for the leather tanning industry:
— octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4);
— decamethylcyclopentasiloxane (D5);
— dodecamethylcyclohexasiloxane (D6);
This method requires the use of gas chromatography (GC) equipped with a single quadrupole mass spectrometer (MS) to identify and quantify the cyclosiloxanes.

This document specifies a method for determining the total content (solvent extractable) of the following bisphenols in chemicals for the leather tanning industry:
— bisphenol A;
— bisphenol AF;
— bisphenol B;
— bisphenol F;
— bisphenol S.
This method requires the use of liquid chromatography (LC) with either a single quadrupole mass spectrometer (MS), a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer (MS/MS), an ultraviolet (UV) detector, a diode array detector (DAD) or a fluorescence detector (FLD) to identify and quantify the bisphenols.
NOTE 1 This method can also be used for other bisphenols if they are validated by the laboratory.
NOTE 2 Bisphenol S cannot be detected with FLD.
