CEN/TC 128/SC 3 - Clay roofing tiles

This European Standard specifies requirements for clay roofing tiles and fittings for pitched roof coverings and wall cladding and lining.
It applies to all tiles and fittings as defined in Clause 3.
Clay roofing tiles and clay fittings which conform to this European Standard are suitable for use as roof coverings, vertical wall cladding and lining.
This European Standard defines the minimum requirements for a product which if satisfactory at the time of delivery will ensure that the product is able to perform its function in relation to the performance levels declared for it, whilst subjected to the changes that occur in such materials during normal conditions of use.
The results obtained according to the European Standard apply to products at the time they are offered for sale.

This European Standard specifies the test method for the determination of frost resistance of clay roofing tiles and fittings.
The test method is applicable in all CEN member countries in accordance with the required performance level of each member state.

This European standard specifies the methods for determining the geometric characteristics of clay tiles as defined in EN 1304, Clay roofing tiles and fittings Product definitions and specifications.

This European Standard describes two test methods for testing the impermeability to water of clay roof tiles and fittings which can be considered as equivalent.
NOTE   The methods are not applicable to all fittings, because of their different shapes.

This European Standard describes the test method used to evaluate the flexural strength of clay roofing tiles as defined in the standard EN YY - 'Clay roofing tiles - Product definitions and specifications'.

TC - Correction of Table 3

This part of this European Standard specifies five test methods for the determination of frost resistance of clay roofing tiles and fittings.
The first four test methods (methods A, B, C and D) are applicable according to the requirements described in EN 1304.
The fifth test method (E) is applicable in all the CEN members in accordance with the requirement of each member state. Each country indicates the level or levels in the National foreword of EN 539-2.

This European Standard specifies the methods for determining the geometric characteristics of clay tiles as defined in prEN 1304.

This part of this European Standard specifies four test methods for the determination of frost resistance of clay roofing tiles and fittings to apply according to the geographic zone of use of the product under the conditions described in prEN1304.

This European standard defines clay roofing tiles and determines the general specifications to which they are bound as well as the rules for classification, marking and quality control of products. It applies to all tiles and fittings as defined in 4.1. Clay roofing tiles and clay fittings which conform to this standard are suitable for use as vertical cladding. The geometric and flexural strength criteria are not applicable to clay fittings or special tiles.
