CEN/TC 70/WG 2 - Mobile extinguishers
Mobile extinguishers
General Information
This European Standard specifies the rules of design, type testing, manufacturing and inspection during manufacturing of mobile fire extinguishers with metallic bodies, which comply with the requirements of EN 1866 1, as far as pressure resistance is concerned.
This part applies to mobile fire extinguishers of which the maximum allowable pressure PS is lower than or equal to 30 bar and containing non-explosive, non-flammable, non-toxic and non-oxidizing fluids or powder.
This European Standard does not apply to carbon dioxide fire extinguishers.

This European Standard specifies the rules of design, type testing and inspection during manufacturing, ratings and classification of mobile fire extinguishers and test methods to be used. It applies to mobile fire extinguishers with a total mass above 20 kg for powder, water based and CO2 extinguishers. This standard applies to mobile fire extinguishers that are manoeuvred by an operator on foot only.
It does not cover fire tests for class C and class F fires, but the used extinguishing media can be effective on these types of fire. Class D fires are considered to be a very specialist application and are not included in this standard, but may be made the object of national specification.

This standard specifies the rules of design, assembling, testing and inspection during manufacturing of mobile fire extinguishers manufactured with metallic bodies as far as pressure risk is concerned. This standard also applies to the propellant gas cylinders of the mobile fire extinguishers.
NOTES 1. This standard does not specify any metallic materials which comply with the essential requirements of the Directive 97/23EEC (PED). Materials that successfully pass the essential requirements of the PED may be used.
2. The classification of the different parts forming the assembly of the mobile extinguishers is given in Annex A.
