Overview

SIST EN 300 019-2-7 V3.0.0:2006 is a Slovenian standard aligned with the European ETSI EN 300 019-2-7 standard. It addresses environmental engineering requirements for telecommunications equipment, specifically focusing on environmental conditions and tests for portable and non-stationary use. The standard defines a systematic approach to verifying the resilience and durability of telecom devices across different operational environments, as highlighted in EN 300 019-1-7.

This document is crucial for manufacturers, engineers, and quality assurance professionals who need to ensure that their telecommunications equipment can withstand the various mechanical, climatic, and biological stresses encountered during portable or non-fixed deployment.

Key Topics

  • Environmental Classification: The standard details the types of environments (e.g., temperature-controlled, partially temperature-controlled, partially and non-weatherprotected) in which portable telecom equipment may operate.
  • Test Methodologies: It specifies standardized test procedures, referencing IEC 60068-2 series for environmental testing, including cold, dry heat, damp heat, vibration, shock, and free fall tests.
  • Severity Levels: Provides guidance on the severity and duration of each environmental test, allowing equipment designers to match testing rigor to anticipated field conditions.
  • Verification Procedures: Details when telecommunications equipment must operate during tests and outlines necessary performance criteria before, during, and after exposure.
  • Mechanical and Climatic Stressors: Covers the impact of temperature variation, humidity, rain, dust, mechanical shocks, vibration, flora, fauna, and exposure to active chemical substances.

Applications

SIST EN 300 019-2-7 V3.0.0:2006 is applied to a wide range of telecommunication devices that are not installed in fixed locations. Typical use cases include:

  • Mobile Network Devices: Equipment used in field operations or deployed at temporary sites, such as outdoor wireless units, base stations, and relay equipment.
  • Portable User Terminals: Handheld communication devices, test equipment, and mobile routers that may be subject to frequent movement and varying environmental conditions.
  • Temporary Installations: Communication systems used for events, construction sites, emergency response units, or any scenario where equipment is frequently relocated.
  • Product Qualification: Engineers and testing laboratories use the specified methodologies to validate that telecom equipment meets essential reliability and durability standards before market launch.

Adhering to this standard helps manufacturers reduce product failure rates, lower warranty costs, and ensure compliance with European market regulations for telecommunication devices used in non-stationary environments.

Related Standards

To ensure comprehensive environmental testing and compliance, consider these related standards:

  • EN 300 019-1-7: Defines the environmental classes and conditions for portable and non-stationary telecom equipment.
  • IEC 60068-2 Series: Internationally recognized methods for environmental testing, referenced for specific tests such as cold, dry heat, damp heat, vibration, and shock.
  • ETSI ETS 300 019-2-0: Provides an introduction and general overview of environmental test specifications for telecommunications equipment.
  • ISO 4180-2: Details performance test schedules for transport packages, relevant for drop and fall testing.
  • ETSI ETR 035 and IEC 60068-1: Offer guidance and terminology for environmental engineering and general testing principles.

By implementing SIST EN 300 019-2-7 V3.0.0:2006, organizations can ensure robust environmental performance for portable telecommunications equipment, support international market access, and maintain product reliability in challenging conditions.

ETS 300 019-2-0 [3] forms a general overview of part 2 of the present document.
The equipment under test is assumed to be in its operational state throughout the test conditions described in this part
unless otherwise stated. The required performance before, during and after the test needs to be specified in the product
specification. Input and load conditions of the equipment shall be chosen to obtain full utilization of the equipment
under test. The heat dissipation shall be maximized, except for the steady state, low temperature test, where it shall be
minimized.
