SIST EN 302 500-2 V2.1.1:2010 is the Slovenian adoption of ETSI EN 302 500-2 V2.1.1, a Harmonized European Standard for Short Range Devices (SRD) using Ultra WideBand (UWB) technology. It specifies the radio spectrum and electromagnetic compatibility requirements for UWB Location Tracking equipment operating from 6 GHz to 9 GHz, so manufacturers, test labs, and compliance teams know what to verify for indoor and portable or mobile outdoor tags. The standard supports article 3.2 of the R&TTE Directive, which focuses on effective use of spectrum and avoidance of harmful interference.
What does SIST EN 302 500-2 V2.1.1:2010 specify?
SIST EN 302 500-2 V2.1.1:2010 specifies requirements for UWB Location Tracking equipment operating in all or part of the 6 GHz to 9 GHz range. It applies to tags attached to people or objects and tracked by a fixed receiver infrastructure that only receives the tag emission, and to equipment with an integral or dedicated antenna.
The document is organized into five clauses and three annexes:
- Clause 1 - Scope
- Clause 2 - References
- Clause 3 - Definitions, symbols and abbreviations
- Clause 4 - Technical requirements specifications
- Clause 5 - Testing for compliance with technical requirements
| Annex | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Annex A | Normative HS Requirements and conformance Test specifications Table (HS-RTT) |
| Annex B | Informative title in the official languages |
| Annex C | Informative bibliography |
What are the key requirements of SIST EN 302 500-2 V2.1.1:2010?
SIST EN 302 500-2 V2.1.1:2010 ties each radio requirement to a matching test, and for some items it points back to ETSI EN 302 500-1. In practice, that means you measure the transmitter and receiver performance against the named limits and test suites, then use the same reference document for the detailed methods and result interpretation.
Environmental profile and test conditions
Clause 4.1 requires the provider to declare the operational environmental profile, and the equipment shall meet the technical requirements within that profile. Clause 5.1 then requires testing at representative points within the declared limits, and with enough environmental variation when performance changes with conditions. This matters because compliance must hold for the actual operating environment, not just a single lab setup.
Transmitter requirements
Clause 4.2.1.1 limits the maximum mean equivalent isotropically radiated power (e.i.r.p.) spectral density, and clause 4.2.1.2 limits the frequency where the highest maximum mean e.i.r.p. spectral density occurs. Clause 4.2.1.3 limits maximum peak e.i.r.p. All transmitters have to meet these rules, so the lab checks both average and peak radiated levels and where the strongest emission occurs.
Indirect Detect-And-Avoid (DAA)
Clause 4.2.1.4 adds Indirect Detect-And-Avoid (DAA) requirements for transmitters operating from 8.5 GHz to 9 GHz. The equipment has to meet the design requirements for DAA, and its mean and peak e.i.r.p. in Non-Interference Mode and non-NIM operation mode must stay within the stated limits. This is the part that matters for spectrum sharing and interference control in the upper part of the band.
Receiver requirements
Clause 4.2.2.1 limits receiver spurious radiations using the receiver spurious radiation definitions and limits from EN 302 500-1. In practice, this keeps unwanted receiver emissions under control and avoids creating interference from the receive side of the product.
Compliance testing and result interpretation
Clause 5 lists the matching test suites: mean e.i.r.p. spectral density, frequency of highest mean e.i.r.p. spectral density, peak e.i.r.p., Indirect DAA, and receiver spurious radiations. Clause 5.3 says measurement results are interpreted according to EN 302 500-1 clause 7. Annex A then maps each requirement to its test specification and marks whether it is unconditional or conditional, and whether the test is part of the Essential Radio Test Suite.
What terms does SIST EN 302 500-2 V2.1.1:2010 define?
- Ultra WideBand (UWB) - The radio technology used by the location tracking equipment covered by this standard.
- Short Range Devices (SRD) - The equipment category for short-range radio devices addressed by the document.
- equivalent isotropically radiated power (e.i.r.p.) - A way to express radiated power as if the antenna radiated equally in all directions.
- Detect-And-Avoid (DAA) - A design approach used to reduce interference by detecting spectrum use and avoiding conflicts.
- HS-RTT - The HS Requirements and conformance Test specifications Table in Annex A that links requirements to tests.
- R&TTE Directive - The EU radio equipment directive that provides the essential requirements this standard supports.
Who uses SIST EN 302 500-2 V2.1.1:2010?
Manufacturers of UWB location tracking tags use this standard to design products with compliant transmitter and receiver behavior. Test laboratories use it to set up conformance measurements for e.i.r.p., DAA, and spurious radiations. Regulatory and compliance teams use it to prepare the technical file and support a presumption of conformity under article 3.2 of the R&TTE Directive. It is also relevant to buyers and system integrators who need equipment for indoor, portable, or mobile outdoor tracking applications.
Which standards are used with SIST EN 302 500-2 V2.1.1:2010?
The main companion standard is ETSI EN 302 500-1 (V2.1.1), titled Short Range Devices (SRD) using Ultra WideBand (UWB) technology; Location Tracking equipment operating in the frequency range from 6 GHz to 9 GHz; Part 1: Technical characteristics and methods of measurement. Part 2 relies on Part 1 for the detailed limits, definitions, symbols, abbreviations, and test clauses it references.
The document also cites Directive 98/34/EC and Directive 1999/5/EC (R&TTE Directive) as informative references that frame the standard’s regulatory context.
What does the SIST EN 302 500-2 V2.1.1:2010 document contain?
The document contains the technical requirements in Clause 4 and the compliance testing rules in Clause 5. It also includes the HS-RTT table in Annex A, which links each requirement to the matching test specification and notes whether the item is unconditional or conditional. Annex B provides the EN title in the official languages, and Annex C lists the bibliography. For implementation work, the standard mostly points to EN 302 500-1 for the detailed methods and limit values rather than repeating them here.
