Overview
EN 61000-4-27:2000/A1:2009 (CLC adoption of IEC 61000-4-27:2000/A1:2009) is an amendment to the basic EMC testing publication that defines a standardized unbalance (supply voltage) immunity test for equipment with input current not exceeding 16 A per phase. The amendment updates the standard title and adds clarifications and verification requirements for test generators used to apply voltage unbalance during immunity testing. The amendment was approved by CENELEC on 2009-03-01.
Key topics and requirements
- Scope: Immunity testing against supply voltage unbalance for equipment whose input current is ≤ 16 A per phase.
- Title change: The amendment modifies the title throughout the standard to explicitly limit the test to equipment with input current not exceeding 16 A per phase.
- Test-generator performance: Table 2 (generator characteristics) is updated - notably the output voltage capability U is specified as +15 % / −40 %.
- Verification of generators:
- Generators must be verified to meet the characteristics in Table 2 using resistive loads drawing an rms current no greater than the generator’s output capability.
- The generator’s output current capability must be shown to provide a crest factor of at least 3 when U is applied to a single-phase load drawing rms current up to the generator’s capability.
- Each output phase of a multi-phase generator must be verified in turn.
- Example verification load: The amendment includes a verification circuit (Figure 4) composed of a test generator, bridge rectifier, an 11 000 μF ±20% electrolytic capacitor, a 35 Ω ±1% resistor, and an additional resistor sized so that the total series resistance (including wiring and diode/capacitor internal resistances) is 92 mΩ ±10%.
Applications and who uses this standard
- EMC/test laboratories: to design and validate unbalance-immunity test setups and test generators for low-current equipment.
- Product manufacturers and compliance engineers: to verify immunity of small appliances, consumer, commercial and light-industrial equipment with input currents ≤ 16 A per phase to supply voltage unbalance.
- Test-equipment designers: to ensure generator hardware meets performance and verification criteria (output capability, crest factor, phase-by-phase verification).
