Overview
SIST EN IEC 62947:2023/oprA1:2026 is an amendment standard that defines general test methods for electrically operated spray seats intended for household and similar applications. It provides updated and clarified procedures for measuring the performance of spray seats, particularly in terms of spray function, energy and water consumption, and the thermal performance of heated seats. This amendment, developed by the Slovenian Institute for Standardization (SIST) in cooperation with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), aims to harmonize test methods and improve reliability and comparability of results across the industry.
By addressing practical aspects such as calibration techniques and measurement conditions, the amendment ensures that manufacturers, laboratories, and certification bodies can accurately assess product performance in diverse environments.
Key Topics
- Performance Test Methods: The standard refines instructions for measuring key aspects of spray seats, such as spray emission duration, spray stability under varying pressures, and cleansing performance.
- Heated Seat Assessment: It introduces an annex dedicated to thermography-based (thermal viewer, THV) measurement, offering a non-contact method for visualizing and evaluating the temperature distribution and uniformity of heated seats.
- Measurement Conditions: The amendment specifies essential test parameters, including seat conditioning, environmental controls, and equipment calibration, to ensure consistency.
- Energy and Water Consumption: Clarifications are provided for the procedures used to evaluate energy and water usage during defined operational phases.
Applications
SIST EN IEC 62947:2023/oprA1:2026 is highly relevant for multiple stakeholders in the sanitaryware and small household appliance sectors, such as:
- Manufacturers: Enables standardized performance verification and comparison, supporting product development and quality assurance for electrically operated spray seats and integrated bidet attachments.
- Testing Laboratories: Guides accredited labs in executing precise and repeatable measurements, covering parameters like spray function and heated seat performance using both contact and non-contact methodologies.
- Certification Bodies: Supports conformity assessment against international benchmarks, contributing to improved product reliability and consumer trust.
- Regulatory Authorities: Assists in aligning national regulations for sanitary appliances with up-to-date European and international standards.
- Design Engineers: Provides technical details that influence the design and testing of new features, especially for the integration of advanced heating and spraying systems.

8 AMENDMENT 1
10 FOREWORD
11 1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising
12 all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promote international
13 co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To this end and
14 in addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications, Technical Reports,
15 Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as “IEC Publication(s)”). Their
16 preparation is entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested in the subject dealt with
17 may participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising
18 with the IEC also participate in this preparation. IEC collaborates closely with the International Organization for
19 Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined by agreement between the two organizations.
20 2) The formal decisions or agreements of IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as possible, an international
21 consensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each technical committee has representation from all
22 interested IEC National Committees.
23 3) IEC Publications have the form of recommendations for international use and are accepted by IEC National
24 Committees in that sense. While all reasonable efforts are made to ensure that the technical content of IEC
25 Publications is accurate, IEC cannot be held responsible for the way in which they are used or for any
26 misinterpretation by any end user.
27 4) In order to promote international uniformity, IEC National Committees undertake to apply IEC Publications
28 transparently to the maximum extent possible in their national and regional publications. Any divergence between
29 any IEC Publication and the corresponding national or regional publication shall be clearly indicated in the latter.
30 5) IEC itself does not provide any attestation of conformity. Independent certification bodies provide conformity
31 assessment services and, in some areas, access to IEC marks of conformity. IEC is not responsible for any
32 services carried out by independent certification bodies.
33 6) All users should ensure that they have the latest edition of this publication.
34 7) No liability shall attach to IEC or its directors, employees, servants or agents including individual experts and
35 members of its technical committees and IEC National Committees for any personal injury, property damage or
36 other damage of any nature whatsoever, whether direct or indirect, or for costs (including legal fees) and
37 expenses arising out of the publication, use of, or reliance upon, this IEC Publication or any other IEC
38 Publications.
39 8) Attention is drawn to the Normative references cited in this publication. Use of the referenced publications is
40 indispensable for the correct application of this publication.
41 9) IEC draws attention to the possibility that the implementation of this document may involve the use of (a)
42 patent(s). IEC takes no position concerning the evidence, validity or applicability of any claimed patent rights in
43 respect thereof. As of the date of publication of this document, IEC had not received notice of (a) patent(s), which
44 may be required to implement this document. However, implementers are cautioned that this may not represent
45 the latest information, which may be obtained from the patent database available at https://patents.iec.ch shall
46 not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.
