SIST EN 300 019-2-2 V2.1.2:2006 is the Slovenian adoption of ETSI EN 300 019-2-2 Version 2.1.2. It specifies environmental test severities and test methods for verifying the resistibility of telecommunications equipment during transportation. Engineers, quality managers, packaging designers and buyers use it when they need to choose transport tests for equipment in a defined environmental class.
What does SIST EN 300 019-2-2 V2.1.2:2006 specify?
SIST EN 300 019-2-2 V2.1.2:2006 specifies the transport-related environmental tests for telecommunications equipment. The document ties those tests to the environmental classes defined in ETS 300 019-1-2 and is part of the EN 300 019 series on environmental conditions and environmental tests.
The technical core is in clause 3, which splits transportation into three specifications and then gives the associated climatic and mechanical test tables.
| Specification | What it covers |
|---|---|
| T 2.1 | Very careful transportation by air and by road on good quality road surfaces, with special care for low temperatures, handling and vehicle type |
| T 2.2 | Careful transportation by air, by road on good quality road surfaces, by ship and by train with specially designed shock-reducing buffers |
| T 2.3 | Public transportation by air, by road on all road qualities, by ship and by train, with some care for low temperatures |
Clause 3.4 adds notes that explain why particular tests are recommended, limited to special cases, or omitted for some conditions.
What are the key requirements of SIST EN 300 019-2-2 V2.1.2:2006?
The equipment should be tested in the way it is transported
SIST EN 300 019-2-2 V2.1.2:2006 says equipment should be tested in its normal transport state. If it is usually shipped in packaging, the tests should be done in that packaging. If the product is transported both packed and unpacked, both configurations may need consideration.
In practice, this matters because packaging can change the result of vibration, drop, load and moisture tests. A design that survives unpacked handling may still fail when the package adds restraint, mass or compression.
The document separates transportation into three severity levels
SIST EN 300 019-2-2 V2.1.2:2006 uses three transport specifications, from very careful transport to public transport. The class you select changes the severities in the tables, so the choice of class drives the whole test plan.
- T 2.1 is for the most controlled transport conditions.
- T 2.2 is for controlled but broader transport routes and modes.
- T 2.3 is for transport where the conditions are less controlled and road surfaces may vary.
In practice, the correct class helps a manufacturer or buyer match the test to the real shipping route instead of applying one generic transport test to everything.
The climatic tables cover the main transport stresses
Tables 1, 3 and 5 specify climatic test severities for the three transport classes. They cover low and high temperature, temperature change, humidity, air pressure, air speed, rain, wetness, radiation, chemically active substances, mechanically active substances, flora and fauna.
Some of these items are only relevant in special cases or for unpacked equipment. The notes explain, for example, that some humidity checks apply to unpacked equipment only, and that the high-temperature check includes solar effects through the chosen severity.
In practice, this tells the reader which environmental threats the equipment must tolerate during transit and which ones are mainly used to judge design tolerance rather than to simulate every real-world detail.
The mechanical tables focus on vibration, bumps, drops and load
Tables 2, 4 and 6 define the mechanical tests for the three transport classes. They include sinusoidal vibration, random vibration, shocks or bumps, free fall, steady-state acceleration, static load, and miscellaneous motion such as rolling and pitching.
The notes are important here. They say random vibration is treated as the more realistic transport test, and the bump test is used instead of a more general shock approach. They also explain that free-fall severities depend on mass, with the mass-based values gathered in Table 7 for T 2.2 and T 2.3.
In practice, this means packaging and product engineers need to check both the vibration profile and the handling risk. Heavy units, small units and packed units may need different drop or bump assumptions.
Free-fall severity depends on mass for T 2.2 and T 2.3
Table 7 gives the free-fall test height for different mass ranges for T 2.2 and T 2.3. The notes add how many faces are tested and when a specified normal attitude changes the drop pattern.
That matters because a light unit and a heavy unit are not tested the same way. A buyer or test lab can use Table 7 to set a drop test that matches the equipment mass instead of applying one fixed drop height to every product.
The notes explain where the document is conservative and where it is selective
Clause 3.4 and its notes are part of the practical guidance. They explain why some environmental factors are not given a separate test, why packaging can make the condition more severe, and why some effects are treated as handled by another test method.
This is useful when you need to justify a test plan or explain why one test was chosen instead of another. It also helps when comparing test reports from different suppliers.
What terms does SIST EN 300 019-2-2 V2.1.2:2006 define?
Environmental class - A standardized category that groups environmental conditions with similar transport severity, so the same test basis can be applied to similar shipping situations.
Resistibility - The ability of equipment to withstand the stated transport stresses without unacceptable damage or loss of function.
Packed state - The condition where equipment is transported in its packaging, which the document treats as the normal test state when that is how the equipment is normally shipped.
Acceleration Spectral Density (ASD) - A way to describe random vibration severity across frequency, used here for transport vibration tests.
Bump test - A repeated shock-type test used to represent the many impacts expected during transportation.
Free fall - A drop condition used to check how equipment or packaging survives handling and transit drops.
T 2.1, T 2.2, T 2.3 - The three transportation specifications in clause 3, each matching a different level of transport care and route.
Who uses SIST EN 300 019-2-2 V2.1.2:2006?
SIST EN 300 019-2-2 V2.1.2:2006 is used by telecommunications equipment manufacturers, packaging engineers, test laboratories, quality teams and purchasers. They use it to select the right transport class, decide whether to test packed or unpacked equipment, and define the climatic and mechanical verification program.
It is also relevant when writing product specifications, acceptance criteria or supplier test requirements for equipment that will be shipped by air, road, ship or train.
What changed in SIST EN 300 019-2-2 V2.1.2:2006 from the previous edition?
SIST EN 300 019-2-2 V2.1.2:2006 is identified in the document history as a later publication of ETS 300 019-2-2. The history records earlier publications as Edition 1 from May 1994 and V2.1.1 from April 1999, followed by V2.1.2 in September 1999.
Which standards are used with SIST EN 300 019-2-2 V2.1.2:2006?
- ETS 300 019-1-2 - Provides the environmental classes for transportation that this part uses as its basis.
- IEC 60068-2 - Provides the environmental test methods referenced throughout the climatic and mechanical tables.
- ISO 4180-2 - Provides the quantitative data used for the free-fall test severities in Table 7.
- ETS 300 019-2-0 - Gives the general overview of Part 2 of the EN 300 019 series.
What does the SIST EN 300 019-2-2 V2.1.2:2006 document contain?
SIST EN 300 019-2-2 V2.1.2:2006 contains the transport test specifications, the reference list, and notes that explain how to apply the tables. Tables 1 to 6 cover climatic and mechanical severities for classes T 2.1, T 2.2 and T 2.3, while Table 7 gives mass-based free-fall severities for T 2.2 and T 2.3.
The tables name the related IEC test methods, so the document is useful for test planning, design verification and laboratory execution. The notes also explain when a test is only needed in special cases, which helps users avoid applying a transport test more broadly than the standard intends.
