This European Standard covers d.c. metal-enclosed and non-metallic enclosed switchgear
assemblies used in indoor stationary installations of traction systems, with nominal voltage
not exceeding 3 000 V.
It is intended that individual items of equipment, for example circuit breakers, housed in the
assembly are designed, manufactured and individually tested (simulating the enclosure when
necessary) in accordance with their respective parts of EN 50123 or, when appropriate, with
another applicable standard.
NOTE 1 The requirements covered in this European Standard are those concerning the assembly as such, its
enclosure and the mutual influence of the equipment enclosed.
NOTE 2 EMC requirements are covered by EN 50121-5 and additional requirements concerning dependability
(RAMS) are covered by EN 50126.

This draft amendment prAA, if approved, will modify the European Standard EN 50123-6:2003; it is submitted to
CENELEC members for CENELEC enquiry.
Deadline for CENELEC: 2013-08-09.
It has been drawn up by CLC/SC 9XC.
If this draft becomes an amendment, CENELEC members are bound to comply with the CEN/CENELEC Internal
Regulations which stipulate the conditions for giving this amendment the status of a national standard without any
alteration.
This draft amendment was established by CENELEC in three official versions (English, French, German). A version in

70 Annex B applies to metal-enclosed d.c. switchgear assemblies - hereafter called ASSEMBLIES - used in
71 indoor stationary installations.
72 The test procedure described below is intended
73 to assess the ability of the ASSEMBLY to limit the risk of personal injury,
74 to verify the effectiveness of the design in protecting persons,
75 in case of an internal arc.
76 The testing conditions take into account that ASSEMBLIES are installed in areas restricted to authorised

B.1 Purpose of the test
Annex B applies to metal-enclosed d.c. switchgear assemblies - hereafter called ASSEMBLIES - used in
indoor stationary installations.
The test procedure described below is intended
to assess the ability of the ASSEMBLY to limit the risk of personal injury,
to verify the effectiveness of the design in protecting persons,
in case of an internal arc.
