Overview

SIST EN 300 019-2-5 V2.1.2:2006 is a Slovenian standard aligned with the European EN 300 019-2-5, developed by SIST and ETSI. This standard specifies environmental conditions and the methods for environmental testing of telecommunication equipment installed in ground vehicles. It addresses the need to verify the resistibility and operational performance of telecom equipment exposed to various stresses during use in both permanent and temporary ground vehicle installations.

The scope covers all ground vehicles powered by electric motors or combustion engines, except for environments within combustion engine compartments. By defining classification and testing guidance, this standard helps ensure the reliability and durability of telecommunication devices in terrestrial vehicle environments.

Keywords: environmental engineering, telecommunication equipment, ground vehicle installations, environmental testing, resistibility, mobile telecommunications.

Key Topics

  • Environmental Classifications: The standard references defined environmental classes from ETS 300 019-1-5, detailing the range of climatic, mechanical, and chemical conditions encountered in ground vehicle installations.
  • Test Methods and Severities: Focuses on rigorous test procedures and severity levels for:
    • Temperature (high, low, rapid change)
    • Humidity (steady state and cyclic)
    • Vibration and shock (including mechanical bumps)
    • Impact of dust, water, and chemically active substances
    • Effects of solar radiation and pressure
  • Protected vs. Partly Protected Installations: Distinguishes between protected (in heated, weather-shielded locations) and partly protected (unshielded but not directly exposed to weather) installations, offering tailored tests and severity values for each scenario.
  • Test References: Employs internationally recognized test methods, referencing IEC 60068-2 for environmental testing parameters.
  • Operational State Requirements: Defines that equipment must be operational during test cycles, except where start-up tests are specified, ensuring functional validation under duress.

Applications

SIST EN 300 019-2-5 V2.1.2:2006 is essential for manufacturers, installers, and procurement bodies in the telecommunications industry, particularly those deploying equipment in ground vehicles such as:

  • Emergency service vehicles (police, ambulance, fire)
  • Military and defense vehicles
  • Commercial and industrial field vehicles (maintenance, utility, logistics)
  • Public transport vehicles (buses, service vans)

Practical value includes:

  • Risk Mitigation: Assures that telecommunications systems can withstand typical and extreme ground vehicle environments, reducing potential failures and maintenance costs.
  • Compliance and Qualification: Supports conformity assessment for telecommunication equipment, facilitating market entry and tender responses that require evidence of durability.
  • Design Guidance: Engineers use this standard to design and specify hardware, materials, and installation practices that fulfill environmental resistibility requirements.
  • Lifecycle improvement: By ensuring appropriate environmental tolerance, product lifespan and reliability are maximized.

Related Standards

  • ETSI EN 300 019-1-5: Provides the classification of environmental conditions for ground vehicle installations, serving as a reference for defining test classes.
  • IEC 60068-2: Internationally recognized suite of test methods for environmental testing, cited for specific procedures in this standard.
  • ETSI EN 300 019-2-0: Introduction and general overview of environmental test specifications for telecommunications equipment.
  • SIST EN 300 019-2-(1 to 8): Related sub-parts of the series cover conditions and tests for storage, transportation, stationary use (indoors and outdoors), ship environments, portable and underground installations.

By aligning with these related standards, SIST EN 300 019-2-5 V2.1.2:2006 helps organizations create robust, compliant telecommunication installations in varied and often challenging ground vehicle environments.

ETS 300 019-2-0 [3] forms a general overview of part 2 of the present multipart standard.
The equipment under test is assumed to be in its operational state throughout the test conditions described in this part
unless otherwise stated. The required performance before, during and after the test needs to be specified in the product
specification. Input and load conditions of the equipment shall be chosen to obtain full utilization of the equipment
under test. The heat dissipation shall be maximized, except for the steady state, low temperature test, where it shall be
minimized.
