Multilayer piping systems for hot and cold water installations inside buildings - Part 2: Pipes - Amendment 1 (ISO 21003-2:2008/Amd 1:2011)
This part of ISO 21003 specifies the characteristics of pipes for multilayer piping systems intended to be used for hot and cold water installations inside buildings for the conveyance of water whether or not intended for human consumption (domestic systems) and for heating systems, under design pressures and temperatures appropriate to the class of application (see Table 1 of ISO 21003-1).The stress designed plastic materials are: PE-RT, PE-X, PB, PP, PVC-C.
This standard covers a range of service conditions (application classes) and design pressure classes. It also specifies the test parameters for the test methods referred to in this standard. In conjunction with the other parts of ISO 21003 it is applicable to multilayer pipes, fittings, their joints and to joints with components of other plastics and non-plastics materials intended to be used for hot and cold water installations.

Ta standard zajema razpon pogojev delovanja (razrede uporabe) in razrede računskega tlaka.

Overview
SIST EN ISO 21003-2:2009/A1:2011 is an amendment to the international standard covering multilayer piping systems used for hot and cold water installations inside buildings. Specifically, it pertains to Part 2 of this standard, which focuses on pipes themselves. This amendment updates the original EN ISO 21003-2:2008 by providing additional specifications and clarifications mainly relating to the materials used for the outer layer of these multilayer pipes.
Developed by ISO/TC 138 in collaboration with CEN/TC 155, this standard aims to ensure the reliability, safety, and performance of plastic multilayer pipes installed within buildings for water supply. It governs materials, structural requirements, and thermal durability of these piping systems to enhance their longevity and compliance with building regulations.
Key Topics
Scope and Purpose
The standard applies to multilayer piping systems for transporting hot and cold water inside buildings. It covers pipes made from polymer materials and addresses requirements concerning their mechanical properties and thermal performance.Material Specifications
The amendment allows for the use of outer layer materials not originally listed in Table A.1, provided they demonstrate compliance with specific thermal durability tests outlined in the standard.Thermal Durability Testing
A critical focus of the amendment is the requirement for thermal durability testing (section 10.2.2) to ensure all external pipe layer materials can withstand typical temperature stresses encountered in hot and cold water installations.Product Standards Integration
If the outer layer is made from polyolefin materials as specified in Table A.1, thermal durability is deemed compliant if the materials meet their relevant product standards, aligning with the overall multilayer pipe standards.Regulatory Coordination
This amendment was developed through a parallel ISO and CEN process, highlighting the importance of harmonized standards across European and international markets.
Applications
Building Water Supply Systems
This standard is essential for manufacturers and installers of multilayer piping systems used within residential, commercial, and industrial building water infrastructure.Plumbing and Heating Installations
It guides professionals on selecting appropriate multilayer pipes that meet stringent safety and durability criteria for both hot and cold water transport.Construction and Building Regulation Compliance
Compliance with this standard facilitates meeting building codes and enhancing water system reliability, improving safety and reducing maintenance costs.Quality Assurance in Pipe Manufacturing
Pipe manufacturers benefit from this standard as it defines critical testing procedures and enables uniform quality assessment for multilayer piping components.
