ISO 23150-11:2026 is an ISO standard for road vehicles with automated driving functions. It specifies the technology-specific logical interfaces for radar sensors or sensor clusters, so engineers can exchange radar detection data with a data fusion unit in a consistent way.

What does ISO 23150-11:2026 specify?

ISO 23150-11:2026 specifies radar-specific logical interfaces at the feature level, advanced detection level, and detection level for road vehicles with automated driving functions. It covers logical data exchange only - not electrical or mechanical interfaces, and not raw data interfaces.

The document is organized into scope, normative references, terms and abbreviations, feature level, advanced detection level, detection level, and a normative annex with radar interface signals.

AnnexWhat it covers
Annex A (normative)Radar interface signals, including header signals and detection-level entity signals

Clauses 5 and 6 state that no feature level interface (FLI) or advanced detection level interface (ADLI) is defined for radar sensors or sensor clusters. In practice, that means radar implementation work in this part centers on the detection level interface (DLI).

What are the key requirements of ISO 23150-11:2026?

ISO 23150-11:2026 makes the radar detection level interface the core of the document. Clause 7 builds it on the generic sensor detection interface in ISO 23150-1:2026, so implementers use the shared ISO 23150 framework and then apply the radar-specific rules here.

Radar detection interface structure

Clause 7.1 defines the radar detection interface (RDI) as a logical structure with a radar detection header and multiple detections. The header and detection entries must follow the specified signal grouping, with generic profiles and signal options from ISO 23150-1:2026 also taken into account. In practice, this gives suppliers a common message structure to implement and validate.

Header and versioning

Clause 7.2 requires the radar detection header to use the generic sensor detection header from ISO 23150-1:2026, with radar-specific adaptation. The header carries items such as interface version ID, number of valid serving sensors, sensor ID, time stamp - measurement, data qualifier, and the count of valid detections. This matters because the fusion unit needs to identify the sending sensor, understand the data timing, and know how many detections to expect.

Detection entity content

Clause 7.3 says each radar detection shall describe a measured detection and shall include status, information, position, and dynamics. The entity status uses existence probability - detection level, detection ID, optional object ID reference, and time stamp difference - detection level. This is what lets downstream software treat each radar detection as a structured item rather than an isolated number.

Radar-specific signals and ambiguities

Annex A defines radar-specific detection signals such as mode type, radial velocity ambiguity domain, range ambiguity domain, angle azimuth ambiguity domain, angle elevation ambiguity domain, radar cross section, multi target probability, ambiguity grouping ID, and detection ambiguity probability. The ambiguity signals matter when one measurement can correspond to more than one real-world interpretation, because they let the receiver group candidates and judge confidence.

Profiles

Clause 7.4 states that no specific profiles are defined for RDI. Implementers therefore rely on the generic profiles in ISO 23150-1:2026 where needed.

What terms does ISO 23150-11:2026 define?

ISO 23150-11:2026 uses a short set of abbreviations to describe its interface levels and grouping concepts.

  • Automated driving (AD) - the vehicle function area addressed by this series.
  • Feature level interface (FLI) - a feature-level interface, which is not defined for radar here.
  • Advanced detection level interface (ADLI) - an advanced detection-level interface, which is not defined for radar here.
  • Detection level interface (DLI) - the radar interface level defined in this part.
  • Radar detection interface (RDI) - the specific detection-level interface for radar sensors or sensor clusters.
  • Logical signal group (LSG) - a grouped set of signals that belong together in the interface structure.
  • Object level interface (OLI) - a related interface level named in the series for object-level exchange.

Who uses ISO 23150-11:2026?

ISO 23150-11:2026 is used by radar sensor suppliers, sensor-cluster developers, automated driving system architects, data fusion unit teams, and vehicle OEM integration engineers. It is also relevant to verification, validation, quality, and procurement teams checking whether a radar interface matches the ISO 23150 framework.

What changed in ISO 23150-11:2026 from the previous edition?

ISO 23150-11:2026 is the first edition of this part and, together with ISO 23150-1, ISO 23150-2, ISO 23150-12, ISO 23150-13, ISO 23150-14, ISO 23150-15 and ISO 23150-20, it cancels and replaces ISO 23150:2023. The stated changes are a reorganization around generic interfaces, generic signals, generic profiles, and terms from ISO 23150-1; separate documents for technology-specific interface collections; and revised logical interfaces.

Which standards are used with ISO 23150-11:2026?

StandardWhat it contributes
ISO 23150-1:2026General information and principles, plus the generic sensor interfaces, signals, profiles, and terms used as the base for this part
ISO 23150-2Object level interfaces that a radar sensor or sensor cluster may also implement
ISO 23150-20Supportive sensor interfaces and sensor input interfaces that may be used alongside this part

ISO 23150-13Camera specific interfaces in the ISO 23150 series
ISO 23150-14Ultrasonic specific interfaces in the ISO 23150 series
ISO 23150-15Microphone specific interfaces in the ISO 23150 series

What does the ISO 23150-11:2026 document contain?

ISO 23150-11:2026 contains the radar interface structure, the header layout, the detection entity grouping, and the radar-specific signals used at detection level. Annex A gives the signal definitions and value types for radar detection data, including the ambiguity-related signals that matter for interpretation and confidence handling.

iv
Introduction
Vehicle environmental perception sensors (single sensor or sensor cluster) provide logical interfaces
according to the ISO 23150 series to the fusion unit or automated driving functions. The fusion unit
generates a surround model and interprets the scene around the vehicle based on the sensor data. Interfaces
are defined on different levels and described in a modular and semantic representation. The interfaces
on feature level, advanced detection level and detection level are technology specific and differ by each
technology.
Figure 1 shows the schematic and contextual relationships between the documents relating to logical
interfaces of the ISO 23150 series.

This document specifies technology-specific interfaces for radar sensors as well as sensor clusters. The
[1]
interfaces bases on the generic specifications of the interfaces in ISO 23150-1 . This document references
the generic specifications of signals for the interface header, the generic interface levels and the profiles.
A radar sensor or sensor cluster may also implement (provide or receive) logical interfaces:
[2]
— on object level (see ISO 23150-2 );
— for additional interfaces as supportive sensor interfaces and sensor input information interfaces (see
[7]
ISO 23150-20 ).
This document is not intended to replace the logical interface specifications of other documents in the
ISO 23150 series.
[1]
This document is based on the generic specifications in ISO 23150-1 as shown in Figure 2:
— generic sensor cluster feature interface;
— generic sensor advanced detection interface;
— generic sensor detection interface;
— general level-independent profiles.
