This document specifies a procedure for artificial ageing of flexible underlays which are used under discontinuous roof coverings. This is achieved by exposing test samples to UV-radiation, elevated temperature in combination with high relative humidity and elevated temperature in combination with accelerated air-speed.

Dieses Dokument legt einen Prozess für die künstliche Alterung von Unterdeck- und Unterspannbahnen fest, die unter der Dachdeckung verlegt werden. Le présent document spécifie un mode opératoire de vieillissement artificiel des écrans souples de sous-toiture utilisés sous les couvertures en petits éléments discontinus. Pour ce faire, les échantillons d'essai sont exposés au rayonnement UV, à température élevée combinée à une humidité relative élevée et une température élevée avec une vitesse de ventilation accélérée.

Introduction
During its time on the roof, a discontinuous roofing underlay is exposed to different climatic conditions.
During installation, whilst the roof is open prior to application of the primary covering, the underlay is
exposed to UV and direct weathering. After completion of the roof, the underlay is subject to long term
oxidation and hydrolysis, being exposed to elevated temperatures in combination with high relative
humidity and accelerated air-speed due to wind-driven and thermally-driven air flows. The method
described in this document is designed to simulate these relevant exposures, which affect the durability
of an underlay.
This document is an additional voluntary artificial ageing test procedure that is intended to be
incorporated into the harmonized standard EN 13859-1:2010 at a future revision.
