Structural timber - Determination of characteristic values of mechanical properties and density
This Standard gives a method for determining characteristic values of mechanical properties and density, for defined populations of timber of visual and/or mechanical strength grades. A method is also given for checking the strength of a timber sample against its designated value. The value determined in accordance with this standard for mechanical properties and density are suitable for assigning grades and species to the strength classes of EN 338.

Diese Norm beschreibt, wie charakteristische Festigkeits-, Steifigkeits- und Rohdichtwerte von Holz definierter Grundgesamtheiten zu bestimmen sind. Grundgesamtheiten im Sinne dieser Norm sind visuell oder maschinell festigkeitssortierte Sortierklassen. Ausserdem wird ein Verfahren angegeben zur Überprüfung der Festigkeitswerte einer Holzprobe zum Vergleich mit genormten Festigkeitswerten. Die nach dieser Norm bestimmten Festigkeits-, Steifigkeits- und Rohdichtewerte sind für die Zuordnung der Holzarten und -klassen in die Festigkeitsklassen nach EN 338 geeignet.

Cette norme indique une méthode de détermination des valeurs caractéristiques des propriétés mécaniques et de la masse volumique, pour des populations de bois définies, de qualité classées visuellement et/ou mécaniquement. Une méthode de vérification de la résistance d'un échantillon de bois par rapport une valeur donnéd est également indiquée. Les valeurs déterminées conformément à cette norme en ce qui concerne la masse volumique et les propriétés mécaniques peuvent être utilisées pour attribuer à un couple classe/essence une classe de résistance de prEN 338.
