This document describes the method of determining the moisture in the analysis sample by drying the sample in an oven. It is intended to be used for general analysis samples according to prCEN/TS 14780. The method described in this document is applicable to all solid biofuels.
NOTE The term moisture content when used with biomass materials can be misleading since untreated biomass frequently contains varying amounts of volatile compounds (extractives) which may evaporate when determining the moisture content of the general analyses sample by oven drying.
Since biofuels in small particle size are very hygroscopic, their moisture content will vary with change of humidity of the atmosphere and therefore, the moisture of the analyses sample should always be determined simultaneously when portions are weighed out for other analytical determinations, for example calorific value, carbon, nitrogen.

Dieses Dokument legt ein Verfahren zur Bestimmung des Wassergehaltes in der Analysenprobe durch Trocknen der Probe in einem Ofen fest. Der Teil ist für die Anwendung bei gewöhnlichen Analysenproben nach prCEN/TS 14780 vorgesehen. Das im vorliegenden Teil dieses Dokumentes festgelegte Verfahren gilt für alle festen Biobrennstoffe.
ANMERKUNG Der Begriff Wassergehalt kann bei der Anwendung im Zusammenhang mit Biomasse irreführend sein, weil unbehandelte Biomasse oft unterschiedliche Mengen an flüchtigen Verbindungen (Extraktstoffen) enthält, die bei der Bestimmung des Wassergehaltes gewöhnlicher Analysenproben durch Ofentrocknung verdampfen können.
Da Biobrennstoffe mit kleiner Teilchengröße stark hygroskopisch sind, ändert sich deren Wassergehalt bei Änderung der Luftfeuchte, und deshalb sollte der Wassergehalt der Analysenprobe immer gleichzeitig während des Einwägens von Untersuchungsproben für andere analytische Untersuchungen, zum Beispiel des Brennwertes, von Kohlenstoff, Stickstoff, bestimmt werden.

This Technical Specification (CEN/TS) was approved by CEN on 19 January 2004 for provisional application.
The period of validity of this CEN/TS is limited initially to three years. After two years the members of CEN will be requested to submit their
comments, particularly on the question whether the CEN/TS can be converted into a European Standard.
CEN members are required to announce the existence of this CEN/TS in the same way as for an EN and to make the CEN/TS available
promptly at national level in an appropriate form. It is permissible to keep conflicting national standards in force (in parallel to the CEN/TS)
until the final decision about the possible conversion of the CEN/TS into an EN is reached.
