This European Standard specifies the required characteristics, the condition for qualification, acceptance and quality assurance for electrical and optical rectangular connectors with single or multiple removable rectangular inserts for use in a temperature range from 65 °C to 175 °C continuous for electrical contact.
This family of connectors is particularly suitable for aeronautic use in zones of severe environmental conditions on board aircraft, applying EN 2282.
Inserts for fiber optic contacts or mixing fiber optic contacts and electrical contacts are described in EN 4639-002.

Diese Europäische Norm legt die Anforderungen, die Bedingungen für die Qualifikation, Abnahme und Quali-tätssicherung von elektrischen und optischen Steckverbindern mit rechteckigem Querschnitt und einzelnen oder mehreren rechteckigen Einsätzen zur Herstellung elektrischer Kontakte bei einer Dauerbetriebstempera-tur von −65 °C bis 175 °C fest. Diese Familie von Steckverbindern ist besonders für den Einsatz in der Luftfahrt unter rauen Umgebungsbe-dingungen an Bord von Luftfahrzeugen nach EN 2282 geeignet. Einsätze für optische Kontakte oder die Mischung von optischen und elektrischen Kontakten sind in EN 4639-002 beschrieben.

La présente Norme européenne spécifie les caractéristiques requises, les conditions de qualification, d'acceptation et d'assurance de la qualité pour les connecteurs rectangulaires électriques et optiques avec des inserts rectangulaires simples ou multiples démontables pour être utilisés dans une plage de température de - 65 °C à 175 °C continu pour les contacts électriques.
Cette famille de connecteurs est particulièrement appropriée pour une utilisation aéronautique dans des zones aux conditions environnementales sévères à bord des aéronefs, suivant l'EN 2282.
Les inserts pour les contacts pour fibres optiques ou mixant contacts pour fibres optiques et contacts électriques sont définis dans l'EN 4639-002.

Ta evropski standard določa zahtevane značilnosti, pogoje kvalifikacije, sprejemljivosti in zagotavljanja kakovosti za električne in optične pravokotne konektorje z enim ali več pravokotnimi vložki, ki jih je mogoče odstraniti, za uporabo pri stalni temperaturi med - 65 °C in 175 °C za električni kontakt. Ta družina konektorjev je zlasti ustrezna za aeronavtično uporabo na letalih na območjih z neugodnimi okoljskimi pogoji, pri čemer se uporablja standard EN 2282. Vložki za kontakte iz optičnih vlaken ali mešanico kontaktov iz optičnih vlaken in električnih kontaktov so opisani v standardu EN 4639-002.

two rack and panel (blind mate) connector housing sizes; it is a size three housing and a size four housing which have respectively three and four insert cavities all with one keyway, three polarizing posts or keys offering 64 polarizing positions and no locking mechanism. In addition to this rack and panel use, the size four male connector can be mated with two size 2 female connectors in a disconnect application by using two centre coupling mechanisms. These connectors use different types of contacts (signal, power, coaxial, triaxial, quadrax, etc.) see EN 3155-002 and optical contacts see EN 4639-002. SIST EN 4644-001:2012
Aligning cavities guaranty not only the alignment between male and female housing but also guarantee the shell to shell bottoming. Non aligning female housing cavities have a circular location tolerance. In order to define how alignment of the female and male housing is achieved a dimension line between the two housing aligning cavities is defined. SIST EN 4644-001:2012
