This document specifies a test method using water immersion test for assessing the bleeding of coloured wood extractives through a coating. Leachates of coated and uncoated wood are collected after the immersion procedure and their colour is compared. The colour of the coated wood before and after immersion tests is also compared. This document does not specify acceptance values for colour differences that can be tolerated and it is not applicable to staining caused by knots for which there is a different test method (see EN 927 7).
NOTE The method has been developed for oak and chestnut wood and might be applicable for other wood substrates containing water soluble extractives.

Dieses Dokument legt ein Prüfverfahren fest, bei dem das Ausbluten von gefärbten Holzinhaltsstoffen durch eine Beschichtung mit Hilfe der Wassertauchprüfung beurteilt wird. Sickerwässer von beschichtetem und unbeschichtetem Holz werden nach dem Eintauchverfahren gesammelt und ihre Farbe wird verglichen. Außerdem wird die Farbe des beschichteten Holzes vor und nach der Wassertauchprüfung verglichen. In diesem Dokument werden keine Akzeptanzwerte für Farbunterschiede angegeben, die toleriert werden können, und es ist nicht anwendbar auf Verfärbungen durch Äste, für die es ein anderes Prüfverfahren gibt (siehe EN 927 7).
ANMERKUNG Das Verfahren wurde für Eichen- und Kastanienholz entwickelt und könnte auch für andere Holzsubstrate, die wasserlösliche Extraktstoffe enthalten, anwendbar sein.

Le présent document spécifie une méthode d’essai qui utilise un essai d’immersion dans l’eau pour évaluer la migration des extractibles colorés du bois à travers un revêtement. Les lixiviats de bois revêtu et non revêtu sont recueillis après la réalisation du mode opératoire d’immersion et leur couleur est comparée. La couleur du bois revêtu avant et après les essais d’immersion est également comparée. Le présent document ne spécifie pas de valeurs d’acceptation pour les différences de couleur qui peuvent être tolérées et il ne s’applique pas aux taches causées par les nœuds pour lesquelles il existe une méthode d’essai différente (voir EN 927 7).
NOTE La méthode a été développée pour le bois de chêne et de châtaignier et pourrait s'appliquer à d'autres subjectiles de bois contenant des extractibles solubles dans l'eau.

Introduction
Coatings on exterior wood surfaces have both decorative and protective functions. A valued function of
the coating system is to protect against discoloration caused by the presence of coloured wood
extractives migrating in the coating from the wood material. Tannin staining can occur at different stages,
including shortly after coating application and at later stages in use, when driving forces like fluctuating
humidity are present.

1 Scope
This document specifies a test method using water immersion test for assessing the bleeding of coloured
wood extractives through a coating. Leachates of coated and uncoated wood are collected after the
immersion procedure and their colour is compared. The colour of the coated wood before and after
immersion tests is also compared. This document does not specify acceptance values for colour
differences that can be tolerated and it is not applicable to staining caused by knots for which there is a
