This European Standard specifies siliceous and calcareous fly ash used in hydraulically bound mixtures for roads, airfields and other trafficked areas. This European standard applies to fly ash produced by the combustion of pulverized coal or lignite in energy generating plants.

Diese Europäische Norm legt Flugasche fest, die in hydraulisch gebundenen Gemischen für die obere Tragschicht, den Unterbau, die Abdeckung und verwandte Gebiete verwendet wird. Die Norm gilt für Flugasche, die durch Verbrennung von Kohlenstaub in Energieerzeugungsanlagen entsteht.
Es gibt in Abhängigkeit von der Art der verbrannten Kohle und/oder des Entschwefelungsprozesses zwei Arten von Flugasche.
Eine Art verhält sich puzzolanisch, und die vorherrschenden chemischen Bestandteile sind SiO2 und Al2O3; diese Art wird aluminosilikatische oder kieselsäurereiche Flugasche genannt.
Die andere Art verhält sich hydraulisch, und die vorherrschenden chemischen Bestandteile sind CaO, SiO2 und Al2O3; diese Art wird sulfocalzitische oder kalkreiche Flugasche genannt.
