This European Standard deals with the general requirements and the basic performance criteria for the design and construction of all types of free-standing chimneys including their liners. This document deals with special requirements and performance criteria for the design of lining systems made of steel for free standing chimneys. It specifies the requirements for cylindrical steel liners as stated in EN 13084 1.
This document covers the design of the following three basic types of liners located in a load bearing structure:
a)   base supported liner;
b)   sectional liner;
c)   top hung liner.
Additionally this document also applies to single wall chimneys whose surface is in contact with flue gases.
Liners built from prefabricated metal chimneys in accordance with EN 1856-1 and EN 1856-2 are installed as base supported liners with additional supports and guides as defined in this document.

This European Standard deals with the general requirements and the basic performance criteria for the design and construction of all types of free standing chimneys including their liners. A chimney may also be considered as free standing, if it is guyed or laterally supported or if it stands on another structure.
Chimneys attached to buildings should be considered as free-standing chimneys in accordance with this European Standard when at least one of the following criteria is met:
   the distance between the lateral supports is more than 4 m;
   the free-standing height above the uppermost structural attachment is more than 3 m;
   the free-standing height above the uppermost structural attachment for chimneys with rectangular cross section is more than five times the smallest external dimension;
   the horizontal distance between the building and the outer surface of the chimney is more than 1 m.
Chimneys attached to free-standing masts are considered as free-standing chimneys.
The structural design of free-standing chimneys takes into account operational conditions and other actions to verify mechanical resistance and stability and safety in use. Detailed requirements relating to specialized designs are given in the standards for concrete chimneys, steel chimneys and liners.
NOTE   In other parts of the series EN 13084 rules will be given where chimney products in accordance with EN 1443
(and the relating product standards) may be used in free-standing chimneys.

This European Standard specifies particular requirements and performance criteria for the design and construction of cast-in-situ concrete chimneys as well as prefabricated concrete chimneys. It identifies requirements to ensure the mechanical resistance and stability of concrete chimneys in accordance with the general requirements given in EN 13084-1.
As for chimneys attached to buildings the criteria given in Clause 1 of EN 13084-1:2000 apply.
Unless otherwise stated in the following clauses the basic standard for the design of concrete structures, EN 1992 1 1, applies.

Free-standing chimneys - Part 4: Brick liners - Design and execution

This European Standard specifies special requirements and performance criteria for the design and construction of lining systems made of brickwork for free-standing industrial chimneys. Current European practice favours sectional liners and the statements of the standard are mainly devoted to such solutions but are also largely applicable to base supported independent and stayed liners. The differences in the design and construction of the two last types are covered by Annex A. This European Standard identifies requirements to ensure mechanical resistance and stability of liners in accordance with the general requirements given in EN 13084-1.
Lining systems comprise some or all of the following:
chimney liner including duct entry;
insulation;
liner support;
space between liner and concrete windshield.
Gas flow calculations to determine liner sizes are covered by EN 13084-1.
