This draft amendment is submitted to CEN members for unique acceptance procedure. It has been drawn up by the Technical Committee
CEN/TC 191.
This draft amendment A1, if approved, will modify the European Standard EN 12845:2004. If this draft becomes an amendment, CEN
members are bound to comply with the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations which stipulate the conditions for inclusion of this amendment
into the relevant national standard without any alteration.
This draft amendment was established by CEN in three official versions (English, French, German). A version in any other language made
by translation under the responsibility of a CEN member into its own language and notified to the CEN Management Centre has the same
status as the official versions.
CEN members are the national standards bodies of Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland,

This document (EN 12845:2004/prA1:2008) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 191 “Fixed
firefighting systems”, the secretariat of which is held by BSI.
This document is currently submitted to the Unique Acceptance Procedure.

1 Modification to the Foreword

Delete the 4 and 5 paragraphs:
“This document has been prepared under a mandate given to CEN by the European Commission and the
European Free Trade Association, and supports essential requirements of EU Directive(s).
For relationship with EU Directive(s), see informative annex ZA, which is an integral part of this document.”.

Delete the 9 indent "- water spray systems (EN ……….1).".
2 Modification to the Introduction
Add at the end of the last sentence of the second from last paragraph "(see Annex M)" to read:
"Similarly, competent technicians should be used in the installation and testing of the equipment (see
Annex M).".
3 Modification to Clause 1, Scope
Delete the second from last paragraph: “This standard also covers sprinkler kits where a kit comprises all the
components necessary to complete the installed sprinkler system.”.
Add the following paragraph at the end:
"Sprinkler system design deviations may be allowed when such deviations have been shown to provide a
level of protection at least equivalent to this European Standard, for example by means of full scale fire testing
where appropriate, and where the design criteria have been fully documented.".
4 Modification to Clause 2, Terms and definitions
Replace "EN 1254" with "EN 1254 (all parts)".
