This European Prestandard defines the general principles for the application of the Time-Of-Flight Diffraction (TOFD) techniques for both detection and sizing of discontinuities in low alloyed carbon steel components. It could also be used for other type of materials, provided the application of the TOFD-technique is performed with necessary consideration of geometry, acoustical properties of the materials and the sensitivity of the examination.

Die vorliegende Europäische Vornorm legt die allgemeinen Prinziepen für die Anwendung der Beugungslaufzeittechnik (TOFD) für das Auffinden und die Größenbestimmung von Unregelmäßigkeiten in Bauteilen aus niedriglegierten Kohlenstoffstählen fest. Das TOFD-Verfahren kann auch auf andere Werkstoffarten angewendet werden, wenn es mit der notwendigen Berücksichtigung von Geometrie, akustischen Eigenschaften der Werkstoffe sowie Nachweisempfindlichkeit der Prüfung angewendet wird.
