Overview
EN 2713-006:2006 is a CEN aerospace product standard that defines CO2 laser printable, screened (braided) and jacketed single- and multicore electrical cables for aircraft on‑board electrical systems. It covers cables rated for operating temperatures between −55 °C and 200 °C, and requires that cables also be markable by hot‑stamp or ink‑jet printing in accordance with EN 3838. The standard applies to 1 to 4 core constructions and specifies materials, construction, required characteristics and tests relevant to aviation use.
Note: the document text states “This standard is not valid for new study.”
Key topics and technical requirements
- Operating temperature range: −55 °C to 200 °C.
- Cores and conductor requirements: cores per EN 2266-003; nominal sections shown from about 0.15 mm² up to 5 mm² (AWG equivalents included). 2–4 core cables are twisted per EN 2235; filler cores are not permitted.
- Screen (braid): nickel‑plated copper stranded braid; strand dimensions and braid construction referenced in the standard (and tested per EN 3475-100).
- Outer jacket: polyimide layer (nominal 30 µm) coated both sides with 2.5 µm fluorocarbon, plus a dispersion fluorocarbon top coat (minimum 15 µm) to accept CO2 laser marking. Options for winding overlaps and multiple layer construction are specified.
- Marking: must accept CO2 laser, hot‑stamp or ink‑jet; user‑applied markings must conform to EN 3838. Permanence of marking is a required test.
- Quality & designation: quality assurance per EN 9133; example designation format provided (e.g., EN2713-006B002F).
- Test suite: references EN 3475-100 test methods covering visual, dimensions, resistance, voltage proof, insulation/surface resistance, accelerated ageing, thermal shock, bending, cold bend, flammability (extinguishing time ≤ 3 s), long‑term thermal endurance (40 000 h at 200 °C), resistance to fluids, scrape abrasion, plating continuity/adherence/thickness, smoke density, toxicity, strippability, screen pushback, etc.
Applications and users
- Who uses this standard: aerospace OEMs, aircraft wiring harness designers, cable manufacturers and suppliers, procurement and quality engineers in aviation and defence sectors.
- Typical applications: on‑board aircraft electrical systems where high temperature resistance, EMI screening and durable laser/ink marking are required - e.g., avionic harnesses, control systems, sensors and power distribution wiring in fixed‑wing and rotary aircraft.
