IEC 61869-1:2023 is applicable to newly manufactured instrument transformers intended for applications where the nominal voltage is higher than 1 kV AC or 1,5 kV DC, with an analogue or a digital secondary signal for measuring, protection and control purposes, with rated frequencies from 15 Hz to 400 Hz, or for DC applications.
The general requirements for instrument transformers for applications in LV systems (nominal voltage ≤ 1 kV AC or ≤ 1,5 kV DC) are covered by IEC 61869-201.
This part of IEC 61869 is a product family standard and covers general requirements only. For each type of instrument transformer, the product standard is composed of this document and the relevant specific product standard.
This part of IEC 61869 contains the requirements for the limits of the errors both for analogue and digital secondary signal. The other characteristics of a digital interface for instrument transformer are standardised in IEC 61869-9 as an application of the IEC 61850 horizontal standard series, covering communication networks and systems for power utility automation.
This part of IEC 61869 considers bandwidth requirements. The accuracy requirements on harmonics and requirements for the anti-aliasing filter are specified in 5.7.
IEC 61869-1:2023 cancels and replaces the first edition published in 2007 and IEC 61869 6:2016. This edition constitutes a technical revision.
This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
a) merger with IEC 61869-6:2016;
b) new scope: equipment for HV applications with a nominal voltage > 1 kV AC or 1,5 kV DC;
c) new classification of some special tests as type tests or routine test;
d) additional type tests, additional special tests and new clause for commissioning tests;
e) new annexes E, F, G and I.

IEC 61869-4:2013 applies to newly-manufactured combined transformers for use with electrical measuring instruments and electrical protective devices at frequencies from 15 Hz to 100 Hz. The requirements and tests of this standard, in addition to the requirements and tests of IEC 61869-1, IEC 61869-2 and IEC 61869-3 cover current and inductive voltage transformers that are necessary for combined instrument transformers. This standard replaces IEC 60044-3: Combined transformers.

IEC 61869-2:2012 is applicable to newly manufactured inductive current transformers for use with electrical measuring instruments and/or electrical protective devices having rated frequencies from 15 Hz to 100 Hz. This International Standard is to be used in conjunction with, and is based on, IEC 61869-1:2007. This International Standard cancels and replaces the first edition of IEC 60044-1, published in 1996, and its Amendment 1 (2000) and Amendment  2 (2002), and the first edition of IEC 60044-6, published in 1992. Additionally it introduces technical innovations in the standardization and adaptation of the requirements for current transformers for transient performance.

IEC 61869-5:2011 applies to new single-phase capacitor voltage transformers connected between line and ground for system voltages U_m ≥ 72,5 kV at power frequencies from 15 Hz to 100 Hz. They are intended to supply a low voltage for measurement, control and protective functions. This standard replaces IEC 60044-5 regarding capacitor voltage transformers as well as IEC-PAS 60044-5 for capacitor voltage transformers.   This publication is to be read in conjunction with IEC 61869-1:2007.

This part of IEC 61869 applies to new inductive voltage transformers for use with electrical measuring instruments and electrical protective devices at frequencies from 15 Hz to 100 Hz.
NOTE 301 Requirements specific to three-phase voltage transformers are not included in this standard but, so far as they are relevant, the requirements in clauses 4 to 10 apply to these transformers and a few references to them are included in those clauses (e.g. see 3.1.303, 5.301.1, 5.301.2, 5.5.301, 6.13.301.1 and Table 304).
All the transformers shall be suitable for measuring purposes, but, in addition, certain types may be suitable for protection purposes. Transformers for the dual purpose of measurement and protection shall comply with all clauses of this standard.
