Frequently Asked Questions
ISO/TC 131/SC 3/WG 2 is a Subcommittee within the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). It is named "Pneumatic cylinder mounting dimensions". This committee has published 14 standards.
ISO/TC 131/SC 3/WG 2 develops ISO standards. Currently, there are 14 published standards from this subcommittee.
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is an independent, non-governmental international organization that develops and publishes international standards. Founded in 1947 and headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, ISO brings together experts from 170+ member countries to share knowledge and develop voluntary, consensus-based standards that support innovation and provide solutions to global challenges.
A Subcommittee (SC) in ISO operates under a Technical Committee and focuses on a specific subset of the TC's scope. Subcommittees develop standards and technical specifications in their specialized area, reporting to their parent Technical Committee. They may also have working groups for detailed technical work.
This document specifies the mounting dimensions required for interchangeability of rod-end clevises of pneumatic cylinders. The rod-end clevises have been designed specifically for use with 1 000 kPa [10 bar1] series cylinders manufactured in accordance with ISO 6432 and ISO 15552, but this does not limit their application. The clevises are used on piston rods of pneumatic cylinders for mechanically transmitting the cylinder force. The design of the clevises is based on the maximum forces resulting from the specified internal diameter of the cylinders and pressure according to ISO 6432, ISO 15552 and ISO 21287. 1 1 bar = 100 kPa = 105 Pa; 1 Pa = 1 N/m2.

This document specifies the mounting dimensions required for interchangeability of rod-end spherical eyes of pneumatic cylinders. The rod-end spherical eyes have been designed specifically for use with 1 000 kPa [10 bar[1]] series cylinders manufactured in accordance with ISO 6432 and ISO 15552, but this does not limit their application. The spherical bearing end eyes are used on piston rods of pneumatic cylinders for mechanically transmitting the cylinder force under oscillatory rotational and tilting movements. The design of the rod-end spherical eyes is based on the maximum forces resulting from the specified internal diameter of the cylinders and pressure according to ISO 6432, ISO 15552 and ISO 21287. [1] 1 bar = 100 kPa = 105 Pa; 1 Pa = 1 N/m2.

ISO 6432:2015 establishes a metric series of mounting dimensions required for interchangeability of commonly used pneumatic cylinders for a maximum working pressure of 1 000 kPa (10 bar). NOTE This International Standard allows manufacturers freedom of design in metric cylinders and does not restrict technical development but provides basic guidelines.

ISO 21287:2004 establishes a metric series of single rod pneumatic compact cylinders with bores of 20 mm to 100 mm for use of at maximum working pressure of 1 000 kPa (10 bar) with and without magnetic function. This series of pneumatic cylinder is not equipped with adjustable cushioning. Therefore, the application is restricted to those systems where adjustable cushioning is not required. Cylinders with bores of 20 mm and 25 mm can be used with end cover mountings in accordance with ISO 21287:2004. Cylinders with bores from 32 mm to 100 mm can be used with end cover mountings in accordance with ISO 15552. Piston rod mountings can be used for the different bores in accordance with ISO 8139 and ISO 8140.

ISO/TR 16806:2003 describes how to calculate the loading limits for a pneumatic slide based upon external forces applied in the three principle planes of a tool plate, and applied at any point; external torque applied in the three principle planes of a tool plate; and bearing limits determined by the slide manufacturer in conjunction with the bearing supplier. It also describes how to calculate tool plate deflections due to the loads. ISO/TR 16806:2003 describes how to present the rating information in technical documentation for application by a user.
