SIST EN 301 002-5 V1.1.4:2005 is the Slovenian adoption of ETSI EN 301 002-5 for Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) Security tools (SET) procedures over the Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. one (DSS1) protocol. It specifies the Test Suite Structure and Test Purposes (TSS&TP) for network-side implementations at the T reference point or the coincident S and T reference point, so it tells testers what to check for conformance to EN 301 002-1.

What does SIST EN 301 002-5 V1.1.4:2005 specify?

SIST EN 301 002-5 V1.1.4:2005 specifies the network-side TSS&TP for SET procedures in an ISDN DSS1 environment. It is the conformance test planning document for implementations that follow EN 301 002-1, and the foreword also points to companion parts for the user side and for the ATS and partial PIXIT proforma.

The document is organized into these main clauses:

  • Clause 1 Scope
  • Clause 2 References
  • Clause 3 Definitions and abbreviations
  • Clause 4 Test Suite Structure (TSS)
  • Clause 5 Test Purposes (TP)
  • Clause 6 Compliance
  • Clause 7 Requirements for a comprehensive testing service

Clause 4 groups the network tests by function, and clause 5 turns those groups into named test purposes that can be selected for an implementation under test.

What are the key requirements of SIST EN 301 002-5 V1.1.4:2005?

TSS and TP structure

SIST EN 301 002-5 V1.1.4:2005 defines one TSS for network SET testing and requires each test requirement to be written as a TP. The TP format includes an identifier, the reference conformance requirement, stimulus, reaction, message structure, and selection criteria when a TP is optional.

In practice, this makes the document usable as a test design aid: a lab can turn each TP into a test case and keep the naming aligned with the standard.

Test strategy and message handling

SIST EN 301 002-5 V1.1.4:2005 says the TPs are derived from EN 301 002-1 and EN 301 002-2 because the base standard has no explicit test requirements. The test purposes focus on externally observable behaviour and on situations a real implementation is likely to face.

Unless stated otherwise, the messages are valid and contain at least the mandatory information elements and parameters. For FACILITY messages, the document specifies the point-to-point connectionless bearer independent transport mechanism, with the broadcast mechanism identified where applicable. This matters because a test system must send the right kind of DSS1 signalling, not just the right information.

Network test groups

Clause 4 and clause 5 organize the network TPs into four groups:

  • N01 Registration - PIN
  • N02 Invocation and Operation
  • N03 Notification of possible fraudulent use - PIN
  • N04 Notification of possible fraudulent use - TAN

These groups cover registration of a PIN, exceptional cases during service use, and notifications when repeated invalid attempts may indicate fraud.

Selected TP areas

Clause 5.2.1.1 covers PIN registration and error cases such as invalid served user number, missing PIN service, blocked use, wrong old PIN, invalid new PIN format, primitive PIN, and reusing the current PIN. Clause 5.2.1.2 covers exceptional PIN and TAN use during telecommunication services, including expired, mismatched, or blocked credentials.

Clause 5.2.1.3 covers notifications of possible fraudulent use for PIN and TAN. The TP set distinguishes cases where the served user’s multiple subscriber number is provided and cases where it is not, and it also covers the network option for automatic reinitialization after a predefined time period. That matters for implementations that must react correctly to fraud-related events without changing call state unexpectedly.

Compliance and testing service

Clause 6 requires a compliant ATS to use a matching TSS, keep the same naming conventions, preserve the link between TPs and PICS items, and comply with ISO/IEC 9646-2. Clause 7 says a comprehensive testing service for network equipment claiming conformance to EN 301 002-1 shall use the Remote test method as a minimum.

What terms does SIST EN 301 002-5 V1.1.4:2005 define?

  • Abstract Test Suite (ATS) - The set of abstract test cases derived for conformance testing.
  • Implementation Under Test (IUT) - The device or software being checked against the standard.
  • Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) - The declaration of which options and capabilities an implementation supports.
  • Protocol Implementation eXtra Information for Testing (PIXIT) - Extra implementation data needed to run tests.
  • Test Purpose (TP) - A statement of what a test is intended to verify.
  • Transaction Number (TAN) - The security identifier used in some SET procedures.
  • Personal Identification Number (PIN) - The security code used in SET procedures.

Who uses SIST EN 301 002-5 V1.1.4:2005?

SIST EN 301 002-5 V1.1.4:2005 is used by test labs, protocol engineers, equipment vendors, and quality teams working on ISDN network-side SET conformance. It helps them define ATS, select test cases from PICS options, and check PIN and TAN handling in DSS1 signalling. Buyers or service teams involved in acceptance testing can also use it to understand what a conformance test package should cover.

What changed in SIST EN 301 002-5 V1.1.4:2005 from the previous edition?

The history shows V1.1.3 in July 1999 and V1.1.4 in February 2000, published in May 2000.

Which standards are used with SIST EN 301 002-5 V1.1.4:2005?

  • EN 301 002-1 and EN 301 002-2 - the base protocol specification and the PICS proforma for SET.
  • ISO/IEC 9646-1 and ISO/IEC 9646-2 - the conformance testing framework and ATS specification used for the test methodology.
  • EN 300 196-1 and EN 300 403-1 - protocol references used for components, dummy call reference handling, and DSS1 signalling transport details.
  • ITU-T Recommendation I.411, I.112, I.210, and E.164 - reference configurations, ISDN vocabulary, service concepts, and numbering rules.
  • ETS 300 406 - the testing methodology reference used for realistic, externally observable test purposes.
  • ETR 232 and EN 301 132 - the security terminology and SET reference used for PIN, TAN, and security tool concepts.

What does the SIST EN 301 002-5 V1.1.4:2005 document contain?

Clause 4 contains the test suite structure, shown as a figure with four network test groups. Clause 5 contains the TP naming convention table and the TP structure table, followed by the actual network TPs for PIN registration, invocation and operation, and fraudulent-use notification. The document also includes clauses on compliance and on the minimum testing method for a comprehensive service.

For testing work, the most useful parts are the TP templates and the detailed stimulus-reaction descriptions, because they show what message, component, or error response the IUT should produce in each case.
