SIST EN 300 052-2 V1.2.4:2005 is the Slovenian adoption of the European standard for the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) Multiple Subscriber Number (MSN) supplementary service using the Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. one (DSS1) protocol. It is a Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) proforma specification, so it is used by suppliers and testers to state and check what an implementation supports. In practice, it gives a structured way to declare conformance for a user or network implementation against EN 300 052-1.
What does SIST EN 300 052-2 V1.2.4:2005 specify?
SIST EN 300 052-2 V1.2.4:2005 specifies the PICS proforma for the stage three MSN supplementary service on pan-European ISDN. It tells a supplier of an implementation claiming conformance to EN 300 052-1 what information to complete, and it provides the form used for static conformance review.
The document is organized into five clauses and three annexes. Clauses 1 to 5 cover scope, normative references, definitions, abbreviations and conformance. Annex A is the normative PICS proforma, Annex B is the normative requirements list for related base PICS proformas, and Annex C is an informative summary of changes.
| Annex | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Annex A | PICS proforma for the MSN supplementary service, with user and network sections |
| Annex B | Requirements list linking this PICS to the basic call and supplementary service interactions PICS proformas |
| Annex C | Changes compared with the previous ETS 300 052-2 edition |
What are the key requirements of SIST EN 300 052-2 V1.2.4:2005?
SIST EN 300 052-2 V1.2.4:2005 requires a completed PICS to match annex A in content, numbering and order. That matters because conformance reviews depend on a one-to-one comparison between the completed declaration and the standard’s own item list.
PICS completion and identification
Annex A requires identification of the implementation under test (IUT), the system under test (SUT), the product supplier, the client and a contact person. It also asks for a global statement of conformance and a relationship to the System Conformance Statement (SCS). In practice, this is the basic traceability information needed to know exactly which product or system is being assessed.
Roles and applicability
Annex A separates the declaration into Roles, User and Network sections. The User section is completed only for user implementations, the Network section only for network implementations, and Roles applies to all implementations. This matters because the same protocol can be implemented at different points in the ISDN architecture, and the form filters the questions accordingly.
Capability declarations
Annex A groups the questions into major capabilities, subsidiary capabilities, protocol data unit support, protocol data unit parameters, timers and call states. The tables use status codes such as M, O, N/A and O.n, and support codes Y and N. In practice, these codes show whether a feature is mandatory, optional or not applicable, and whether it is implemented.
User-side MSN behaviour
For user implementations, Annex A asks about the called user terminal selection process and the insertion of the MSN of the calling user in the Calling party number information element. It also covers whether a full or partial ISDN number can be presented in that information element. This is the part a terminal or user-side system must complete when declaring how it handles incoming and outgoing numbering information.
Network-side MSN behaviour
For network implementations, Annex A asks whether the network inserts the MSN of the called user in the Called party number information element and whether it handles receipt of the MSN of the calling user in the Calling party number information element. It also includes options for inserting a full or partial ISDN number, identifying the calling terminal from the Calling party number information element, and checking that element for validity when no special arrangement exists. This tells a switch or network system supplier what network-facing MSN functions must be declared.
Related base PICS proformas
Annex B links this document to the basic call PICS proforma and the supplementary service interactions PICS proforma. It repeats selected items from EN 300 403-3 and EN 300 195-2 so that the MSN declaration can be read together with the related base declarations. In practice, this avoids gaps between the MSN feature declaration and the underlying call control and service interaction capabilities.
What terms does SIST EN 300 052-2 V1.2.4:2005 define?
Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) - A statement from the supplier showing which capabilities are implemented for a given OSI protocol.
PICS proforma - A questionnaire-style document that becomes the PICS when completed for a specific implementation.
Static conformance review - A comparison of the completed PICS with the standard’s static conformance requirements.
Implementation Under Test (IUT) - The implementation being checked for conformance.
System Under Test (SUT) - The wider system that contains the implementation under test.
System Conformance Statement (SCS) - A related statement listing the standards claimed for the system.
Multiple Subscriber Number (MSN) - The supplementary service covered by the standard, concerned with how multiple numbers are handled on an ISDN line.
Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. one (DSS1) - The signalling protocol used for the MSN supplementary service on ISDN.
Who uses SIST EN 300 052-2 V1.2.4:2005?
SIST EN 300 052-2 V1.2.4:2005 is used by suppliers of ISDN equipment and software that claim conformance to EN 300 052-1. It is also used by test laboratories, certification teams, quality managers and telecom buyers who need a structured conformance statement.
The document is relevant to both user implementations and network implementations. That makes it useful for terminal vendors, private network implementers and public network operators who need to declare how MSN is handled at the T reference point or the coincident S and T reference point.
What changed in SIST EN 300 052-2 V1.2.4:2005 from the previous edition?
The informative change summary states four updates: conversion to EN layout, replacement of references to ETS 300 102 with EN 300 403, replacement of references to I-ETSs with EN 300 403, and substitution of non-specific references to basic standards so the latest version is intended where appropriate.
Which standards are used with SIST EN 300 052-2 V1.2.4:2005?
SIST EN 300 052-2 V1.2.4:2005 is used with EN 300 052-1, which contains the MSN protocol specification that the PICS refers to. It also points to EN 300 403-1 and EN 300 403-3 for basic call control references and PICS items, and to EN 300 195-1 and EN 300 195-2 for supplementary service interactions.
The document also relies on ISO/IEC 9646-1 and ISO/IEC 9646-7 for PICS and conformance testing methodology. CCITT Recommendation I.130 and ITU-T Recommendation I.411 provide the service characterization and ISDN reference configuration context used in the scope.
What does the SIST EN 300 052-2 V1.2.4:2005 document contain?
The document contains a completed-form template rather than protocol procedures or test cases. Annex A provides tables for implementation identification, global conformance, roles, user and network capabilities, protocol data units, parameters, timers and call states.
Annex B contains requirements tables that point back to the basic call and supplementary service interaction PICS proformas. These tables help a reviewer see which items in the related base proformas are needed for MSN conformance.
Annex C gives a short change history against the earlier ETS version. Together, the annexes support declaration, review and test selection for MSN conformance assessment.

Foreword
This European Standard (Telecommunications series) has been produced by ETSI Technical Committee Signalling
Protocols and Switching (SPS).
The present document is part 2 of a multi-part standard covering the Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. one
(DSS1) protocol specification for the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) Multiple Subscriber Number (MSN)
supplementary service, as described below:
Part 1: "Protocol specification";
Part 2: "Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) proforma specification";
Part 3: "Test Suite Structure and Test Purposes (TSS&TP) specification for the user";
Part 4: "Abstract Test Suite (ATS) and partial Protocol Implementation eXtra Information for Testing (PIXIT)
proforma specification for the user";
Part 5: "Test Suite Structure and Test Purposes (TSS&TP) specification for the network";
Part 6: "Abstract Test Suite (ATS) and partial Protocol Implementation eXtra Information for Testing (PIXIT)
proforma specification for the network".
To evaluate conformance of a particular implementation, it is necessary to have a statement of which capabilities and
options have been implemented for a given Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) protocol. Such a statement is called a
Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS).
The present version updates the references to the basic call specifications.

supplementary service for the pan-European Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) as provided by European
public telecommunications operators at the T reference point or coincident S and T reference point (as defined in
ITU-T Recommendation I.411 [9]) by means of the Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. one (DSS1) protocol.
Stage three identifies the protocol procedures and switching functions needed to support a telecommunications service
(see CCITT Recommendation I.130 [8]).
The present document provides the Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) proforma for the ISDN
DSS1 MSN supplementary service protocol as specified in EN 300 052-1 [1] in compliance with the relevant
requirements and in accordance with the relevant guidance given in ISO/IEC 9646-7 [7].
The supplier of a protocol implementation which is claimed to conform to EN 300 052-1 [1] is required to complete a
copy of the PICS proforma provided in annex A of the present document and is required to provide the information
necessary to identify both the supplier and the implementation.
