This amendment A2 modifies the European Standard EN 1647:1998; it was approved by CEN on 16 November 2001.
CEN members are bound to comply with the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations which stipulate the conditions for inclusion of this
amendment into the relevant national standard without any alteration. Up-to-date lists and bibliographical references concerning such
national standards may be obtained on application to the Management Centre or to any CEN member.
This amendment exists in three official versions (English, French, German). A version in any other language made by translation under the
responsibility of a CEN member into its own language and notified to the Management Centre has the same status as the official versions.
CEN members are the national standards bodies of Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece,

Foreword
This Amendment EN 1647-1:1998/A2:2001 to EN 1647-1:1998 has been prepared by Technical
Committee CEN/TC 245 "Leisure accommodation vehicles", the secretariat of which is held by
BSI.
This Amendment to the European Standard EN 1647-1:1998 shall be given the status of a national
standard, either by publication of an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by June 2002,
and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by June 2002.
According to the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations, the national standards organizations of the
following countries are bound to implement this European Standard: Austria, Belgium, Czech
Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg,
Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

2 Normative references
Delete “pr” before “EN 1949”.
5.12 Structural classification of caravan holiday homes
At the end of the subclause, add :
“The manufacturer shall insert in the user’s handbook instructions as to the action to be taken by
the user in the event of excessive snow load.
Compliance can be verified either by the submission of the calculations of a qualified structural
engineer or by testing in accordance with annex B.
The structure is considered to have passed the test if it remained safe and returned to an
acceptable condition on removal of the load applied. To satisfy the requirement of “remain safe”,
all designated means of escape egress from the unit (doors and windows) shall function during
and after the test.”
6 Internal equipment
6.1.3 Protection against falling out
6.1.3.1 General
At the end of the subclause, add:
Bunks shall be provided with a label with the following wording :
“Care shall be taken against the risk of falling out when this bunk is used by children, especially
under 3 years of age”.
6.1.5 Security of folding bunks
Replace the subclause with the following:
“If a bunk is designed to fold away it shall be secured against unintentional folding away.
The ability of a bunk to withstand unintentional folding away shall be tested in accordance with
annex F.
A folding bunk shall not unintentionally move from its stored position. This will be tested in
accordance with annex F.

6.1.7 Protection against entrapment

Replace the 2 paragraph with the following:
“If the base of a bunk is not covered by permanently fixed upholstery, any gap in the base not
covered by the mattress shall not permit the passage of the cone (see H.1) beyond the point at
which the diameter of the cone is 75 mm, when measured from above in accordance with H.2”.

Replace the 3 paragraph with the following:
“Any other gap or space accessible from the upper surface of the bed, including mattress where
applicable, shall be between 12 mm and 25 mm or between 60 mm and 75 mm, (tested in
accordance with H.3) or equal to or larger than 200 mm.
