SIST EN 300 444 V1.2.2:2003 is the Slovenian adoption of ETSI EN 300 444 V1.2.2, Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT); Generic Access Profile (GAP). It specifies the technical requirements for DECT Fixed Part (FP) and Portable Part (PP) needed to support GAP, so that 3,1 kHz telephony equipment can inter-operate over the DECT air interface. The profile covers call handling, mobility management, security, access rights and link control between a Fixed radio Termination (FT) and a Portable radio Termination (PT).
What does SIST EN 300 444 V1.2.2:2003 specify?
SIST EN 300 444 V1.2.2:2003 defines the minimum DECT functions, services and procedures needed for GAP interoperability. It is written for PT and FT equipment that support 3,1 kHz telephony teleservice, and it includes the procedures needed to establish, maintain and release calls.
The scope also states that inter-working between the FT and the attached network is outside the document. In practice, this means the standard focuses on the DECT air interface and the behaviour of DECT equipment at that interface, not on the network beyond the FT.
The document is organized into clauses for scope, references, definitions, feature definitions, service definitions, interoperability requirements, procedure descriptions, layer procedures, management procedures and application procedures.
| Annex | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Annex A | PP locking procedure for on-air subscription |
| Annex B | Tones, progress indicator and U-plane connection |
| Annex C | Changes to ETS 300 175 parts 2 to 8 |
What are the key requirements of SIST EN 300 444 V1.2.2:2003?
Clause 6 is the main interoperability matrix. It marks features, services and application functions as mandatory, optional or conditional for PT, FT or both, so implementers can see what each side has to provide and what must still be processed if implemented.
Clause 6 also fixes general rules for NWK handling. Reserved single bits are set to 0, CC transaction identifiers use the lowest free number, and both PT and FP must handle NWK layer messages of at least 63 octets with mandatory information elements included early enough to fit. In practice, this sets a minimum message-handling capability for interoperable call signalling.
Error handling is tightly defined in clause 6. Unsupported MM or CC messages are ignored in the states where they are not required, while missing or invalid mandatory information elements in most CC messages trigger normal release. This matters because equipment must fail in a predictable way instead of breaking the call state machine.
The call control procedures in clause 8 cover outgoing call request, overlap sending, proceeding, confirmation, connection, normal release, abnormal release, partial release and keypad information. Figures and tables define the message flow and the key information elements such as progress indication and keypad codes, which is what makes a GAP handset behave consistently during dialing, alerting and release.
Clause 8 also covers mobility and security-related NWK procedures: identification of PT, authentication of FT, authentication of PP, authentication of user, location registration, location update, key allocation, storing the DCK, cipher-switching and access-rights procedures. These are the functions that control who may use the handset, when access rights are granted, and how encryption is started or stopped.
Clauses 9 to 11 carry the lower-layer requirements. They define DLC class A link establishment and acknowledged transfer, MAC broadcast and paging, basic connection handling, handover, encryption signalling, extended frequency allocation and the PHL limits for transmit power, receiver sensitivity, collision detection and synchronization. In practice, these clauses tell designers what the radio and link layers must support to keep calls and data links working across cells.
Clause 13 and 14 cover management and application procedures such as subscription control, AC to bitstring mapping and manual PARK entry. These are the procedures used when loading or managing subscription data in a PP, especially during installation or service setup.
What terms does SIST EN 300 444 V1.2.2:2003 define?
- Generic Access Profile (GAP) - The DECT profile that defines the minimum common behaviour needed for interoperable cordless telephony between PT and FT equipment.
- Fixed Part (FP) - The physical DECT side between the local network and the DECT air interface.
- Portable Part (PP) - The physical DECT side between the user and the DECT air interface.
- Fixed radio Termination (FT) - The logical fixed-side DECT functions and procedures defined by the DECT Common Interface.
- Portable radio Termination (PT) - The logical portable-side DECT functions and procedures defined by the DECT Common Interface.
- Location Area (LA) - The area within which a PP may make or receive calls after a single location registration.
- Derived Cipher Key (DCK) - The key stored for later ciphering use after key allocation.
Who uses SIST EN 300 444 V1.2.2:2003?
SIST EN 300 444 V1.2.2:2003 is used by manufacturers of DECT handsets, base stations and cordless telephony systems that need GAP interoperability. It is also used by quality teams and test labs checking call setup, release, roaming, subscription, access rights and ciphering behaviour.
Service providers and integrators use it when they need DECT equipment to work across residential, business or public access environments. Conformance and approval testing teams use it as a reference for what must be supported and how procedures are expected to behave.
What changed in SIST EN 300 444 V1.2.2:2003 from the previous edition?
This version replaces the text of subclause 8.29, Location update, compared with ETS 300 444 edition 1. It also includes minor editorial terminology changes made when the deliverable changed from ETS to EN.
Which standards are used with SIST EN 300 444 V1.2.2:2003?
- ETS 300 175-1 to ETS 300 175-8 - The DECT Common Interface parts that provide the layer structure, identities, security features and speech coding on which GAP is based.
- I-ETS 300 176 - The DECT approval test specification.
- TBR 6 and TBR 10 - General terminal attachment requirements, including telephony applications.
- ISO/IEC 9646-6 and ISO/IEC 9646-7 - The protocol profile test specification method and implementation conformance statement framework.
- ISO/IEC 8073, ISO/IEC 2022 and ISO/IEC 8859-1 - Transport protocol and character coding references used by the document.
What does the SIST EN 300 444 V1.2.2:2003 document contain?
The document contains feature tables, service tables and procedure mappings that show which functions are mandatory, optional or conditional for PT and FT. It also contains sequence diagrams and tables for call setup, call release, incoming calls, keypad information, location registration, authentication, access rights, key allocation, cipher switching, link control and handover.
Clauses 9 to 11 add layer-specific methods for DLC, MAC and PHL behaviour, including broadcast, paging, basic connections and radio performance requirements. Annex A and Annex B add informative guidance for subscription locking and tones/progress indication, while Annex C records the changes made to ETS 300 175 parts 2 to 8.
