SIST ETS 300 061-1 E1:2005 is the Slovenian standard identical to ETS 300 061-1 Edition 1. It specifies the stage 3 protocol for the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) Subaddressing (SUB) supplementary service using Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. one (DSS1). The standard is for equipment and networks at the T reference point or coincident S and T reference point, including access to the public ISDN and private ISDN interworking.

What does SIST ETS 300 061-1 E1:2005 specify?

SIST ETS 300 061-1 E1:2005 specifies how called party subaddress information is carried, delivered and handled in ISDN DSS1 signalling. It covers the protocol procedures and switching functions for the SUB supplementary service and is limited to stage 3 behavior.

The standard does not add protocol requirements for delivery through a telecommunications network that is not an ISDN. It is organized into clauses 1 to 14, followed by two informative annexes.

AnnexWhat it covers
Annex ASignalling flows
Annex BRelation of address information elements

The foreword also places this as part 1 of a six-part series. The later parts cover conformance statements and test suite material for user and network implementations.

What are the key requirements of SIST ETS 300 061-1 E1:2005?

SIST ETS 300 061-1 E1:2005 makes SUB an extension to the called user’s address capacity beyond the ISDN number. In practice, a caller can add a called party subaddress in the SETUP message to identify a specific endpoint.

Service use and provisioning

Clause 5 says the calling user inserts the called party subaddress information into the SETUP message as part of the basic service, and the network transfers it transparently to the destination side. The called user receives it in the SETUP message if SUB is provided to that user.

Clause 6 allows the service either without prior arrangement or by subscription. If subscription is required, the user must subscribe before incoming SETUP messages can carry called party subaddress information.

Signalling and handling

Clauses 6 and 9 require the normal incoming call and call offering procedures from ETS 300 102-1. The Called party subaddress information element is carried in the SETUP message, and no special activation, deactivation or registration procedures apply.

Clause 9 also defines the exceptional cases. If SUB is not provided to the called user, or the subaddress is too long, the network discards the information element and gives no indication to the caller. If no subaddress was included, the call continues without it.

Implementation dependencies

Clause 7 requires the Called party subaddress information element defined in ETS 300 102-1. Clause 8 ties SUB to the basic call control state definitions, so implementers use the same call-state model as the underlying ISDN call procedures.

Clauses 10 to 14 cover private ISDN interworking, interactions with other networks and supplementary services, timer values, and SDLs. The standard refers to ETS 300 195-1 for supplementary service interactions and ETS 300 102-2 for SDLs, and it requires no specific timers.

What terms does SIST ETS 300 061-1 E1:2005 define?

SIST ETS 300 061-1 E1:2005 defines the key ISDN terms used to describe the SUB service and its signalling entities.

  • ISDN - Integrated Services Digital Network, the network environment for this service.
  • DSS1 - Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. one, the signalling protocol used at the user-network interface.
  • SUB - Subaddressing, the supplementary service covered by this standard.
  • ISDN number - A number according to the E.164 numbering plan, which SUB extends with extra addressing.
  • Network - The DSS1 protocol entity on the network side of the user-network interface.
  • User - The DSS1 protocol entity on the user side of the user-network interface.
  • Served user - The called user or other private installation on the destination side, which determines how the subaddress is interpreted.

Who uses SIST ETS 300 061-1 E1:2005?

SIST ETS 300 061-1 E1:2005 is used by ISDN network operators, switch and terminal manufacturers, and engineers who implement DSS1 supplementary services. It is also relevant to test and quality teams checking whether equipment handles called party subaddress delivery correctly.

It matters for public ISDN access, private ISDN interworking, and devices that need to receive or forward the SUB information element in SETUP messages.

What changed in SIST ETS 300 061-1 E1:2005 from the previous edition?

SIST ETS 300 061-1 E1:2005 is the first edition of this part. The document history notes an April 1994 corrigendum that changed it to part 1 of a multi-part standard, and a March 1996 revision that converted it to PDF and incorporated earlier corrigenda.

Which standards are used with SIST ETS 300 061-1 E1:2005?

SIST ETS 300 061-1 E1:2005 relies on several referenced standards for call control, numbering and terminology.

  • CCITT I.411 - reference configurations for ISDN user-network interfaces.
  • CCITT I.130 - the method for characterizing ISDN telecommunication services and network capabilities.
  • CCITT E.164 - the ISDN numbering plan used for ISDN numbers.
  • ETS 300 102-1 - the basic call control procedures, SETUP handling, information element definition, and call-state behavior used by SUB.
  • ETS 300 102-2 - the SDL diagrams for the underlying basic call control.
  • ETS 300 195-1 - interactions between supplementary services.
  • CCITT I.112 - vocabulary for ISDN terms.
  • CCITT I.210 - principles and description of supplementary services.

What does the SIST ETS 300 061-1 E1:2005 document contain?

SIST ETS 300 061-1 E1:2005 contains the service description, operational requirements, coding rules, state definitions, and signalling procedures for SUB. It also points to the underlying basic call control procedures that implementers must reuse.

The informative annexes add a signalling-flow view and a map of address information elements. Annex B is especially useful when tracing how called party number, called party subaddress, calling party number, and connected party information relate to different services such as SUB, CLIP and COLP.

Foreword
This European Telecommunication Standard (ETS) has been produced by the Signalling Protocols and
Switching (SPS) Technical Committee of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI).
This ETS is part 1 of a multi-part standard covering the Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. one
(DSS1) protocol specification for the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) Subaddressing (SUB)
supplementary service, as described below:
Part 1: "Protocol specification";
Part 2: "Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) proforma specification";
Part 3: "Test Suite Structure and Test Purposes (TSS&TP) specification for the user";
Part 4: "Abstract Test Suite (ATS) and partial Protocol Implementation eXtra Information for Testing
(PIXIT) proforma specification for the user";
Part 5: "TSS&TP specification for the network";
Part 6: "ATS and partial PIXIT proforma specification for the network".
In accordance with CCITT Recommendation I.130, the following three level structure is used to describe
the supplementary telecommunications services as provided by European public telecommunications
operators under the pan-European Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN):
- Stage 1: is an overall service description, from the user's standpoint;
- Stage 2: identifies the functional capabilities and information flows needed to support the service
described in stage 1; and
- Stage 3: defines the signalling system protocols and switching functions needed to implement the
service described in stage 1.
This ETS details the stage 3 aspects (signalling system protocols and switching functions) needed to
support the Subaddressing (SUB) supplementary service. The stage 1 and stage 2 aspects are detailed in
ETS 300 059 (1991) and ETS 300 060 (1991), respectively.
This reprint includes all previous Corrigenda as shown in the History box at the last page.

1 Scope
This first part of ETS 300 061 specifies the stage three of the Subaddressing (SUB) supplementary
service for the pan-European Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) as provided by European public
telecommunications operators at the T reference point or coincident S and T reference point (as defined in
CCITT Recommendation I.411 [1]) by means of the Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. one (DSS1).
Stage 3 identifies the protocol procedures and switching functions needed to support a telecommunications
service (see CCITT Recommendation I.130 [2]).
In addition, this standard specifies the protocol requirements at the T reference point where the service is
provided to the user via a private ISDN.
This standard does not specify the additional protocol requirements where the service is provided to the
user via a telecommunications network that is not an ISDN.
The SUB supplementary service allows the called (served) user to expand his addressing capacity beyond
the one given by the ISDN number.
The SUB supplementary service is applicable to all telecommunication services.
Further parts of this standard specify the method of testing required to identify conformance to this
standard.
This standard is applicable to equipment supporting the SUB supplementary service, to be attached at
either side of a T reference point or coincident S and T reference point when used as an access to the
public ISDN.
