SIST EN ISO 9862:2024/A1:2026 is an amendment to the geosynthetics sampling and specimen-preparation standard published by SIST. It adds specific preparation rules for Geosynthetic Cementitious Composites (GCCs), especially for specimens tested in hydrated or cured state, so laboratories know how to cut and prepare them consistently.

What does SIST EN ISO 9862:2024/A1:2026 specify?

SIST EN ISO 9862:2024/A1:2026 specifies additional sample-preparation requirements for GCCs within the geosynthetics sampling standard. In practice, it tells users how to handle GCC specimens before testing so that hydrated and cured samples are prepared from suitable uncured material.

This amendment updates Clause 2, Clause 3, Clause 4.1.2, and Clause 4.2.11 of ISO 9862:2023, and it adds Figure 1 to show the specimen layout. The document is focused on one narrow topic: preparing GCC test specimens correctly before laboratory testing.

What are the key requirements of SIST EN ISO 9862:2024/A1:2026?

  • ASTM D8030/8030M-24 becomes a normative reference in Clause 2. This means users preparing GCC specimens need to follow that practice where the amendment points to it.

  • Clause 3 adds three defined states for GCCs: cured, uncured, and hydrated. These definitions matter because they distinguish a specimen before hydration, after hydration, and after hydration plus hardening.

  • “Hydrated” is defined as exposure of the GCC to water under specific conditions for a specific time. In practice, this tells laboratories that hydration is a controlled process, not just accidental wetting.

  • Clause 4.1.2.6 requires hydrated or cured GCC specimens to be cut from uncured samples. This matters because the test piece must come from the correct starting material before the water-treatment or curing step.

  • Those uncured samples must be oversized by at least 25 mm on each side of the perimeter. The extra margin gives room for cutting the final specimen from the center area and helps avoid edge effects.

  • Figure 1 shows the coupon or form template and the 25 mm perimeter where test specimen templates are marked. This gives a visual layout for cutting and helps users place specimen outlines correctly.

  • Clause 4.2.11 sends users to ASTM D8030/D8030M for preparation of hydrated and cured GCC specimens. In practice, the amendment does not restate the full preparation method; it points users to the external practice for the detailed steps.

What terms does SIST EN ISO 9862:2024/A1:2026 define?

  • Geosynthetic Cementitious Composites (GCCs) - a geosynthetic product family covered by this amendment, for which special specimen preparation is added.

  • Cured - the state of a GCC after the cementitious material has initially hydrated and set.

  • Uncured - the state of a GCC before it has been hydrated.

  • Hydrated - exposure of the GCC to water under specified conditions for a specified time.

Who uses SIST EN ISO 9862:2024/A1:2026?

SIST EN ISO 9862:2024/A1:2026 is used by testing laboratories, geosynthetics manufacturers, and quality-control teams that prepare specimens for laboratory testing. It is also relevant to engineers, specifiers, and buyers who need to understand how GCC test samples are supposed to be taken and prepared. In practice, it helps people who review test reports or set up sampling procedures for geosynthetics products.

What changed in SIST EN ISO 9862:2024/A1:2026 from the previous edition?

SIST EN ISO 9862:2024/A1:2026 amends ISO 9862:2023 by adding GCC-specific content. The stated changes are:

  • addition of ASTM D8030/8030M-24 as a normative reference
  • addition of the terms cured, uncured, and hydrated
  • addition of Clause 4.1.2.6 on oversize cutting of GCC specimens
  • addition of Clause 4.2.11 pointing to ASTM D8030/D8030M for hydrated and cured GCC specimen preparation
  • addition of Figure 1 showing the coupon template and 25 mm perimeter

Which standards are used with SIST EN ISO 9862:2024/A1:2026?

The amendment names ASTM D8030/8030M-24 as the external practice for sample preparation of GCCM, and it uses that document for the detailed preparation of hydrated and cured GCC specimens. It also amends ISO 9862:2023, which is the base standard being updated by this amendment.

What does the SIST EN ISO 9862:2024/A1:2026 document contain?

SIST EN ISO 9862:2024/A1:2026 contains a short set of additions rather than a full reissue of the base standard. The content covers a new normative reference, new definitions, one cutting rule for GCC specimens, one cross-reference for specimen preparation, and one explanatory figure.

For practical use, the document supports laboratory sample preparation, test planning, and review of specimen-handling procedures. The figure and the 25 mm perimeter rule are especially useful when technicians need to lay out and cut test coupons before hydration or curing.
