SIST EN 301 002-3 V1.1.4:2005 is the Slovenian adoption of ETSI EN 301 002-3 Version 1.1.4. It specifies the Test Suite Structure and Test Purposes (TSS&TP) for the user side of Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) Security tools (SET) procedures over the Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. one (DSS1) protocol. It is meant for conformance testing of user-side implementations at the T reference point or the coincident S and T reference point.

What does SIST EN 301 002-3 V1.1.4:2005 specify?

SIST EN 301 002-3 V1.1.4:2005 defines the user-side conformance test structure for SET procedures in ISDN. Its scope is limited to Test Suite Structure and Test Purposes, so it tells you what should be tested and how the tests are grouped, not the full protocol itself.

The document is organized into these main clauses:

  • Scope
  • References
  • Definitions and abbreviations
  • Test Suite Structure (TSS)
  • Test Purposes (TP)
  • Compliance
  • Requirements for a comprehensive testing service

The scope links this part to EN 301 002-1 as the base protocol specification and points to other parts of the same series for ATS and PIXIT material, including the network-side parts.

What are the key requirements of SIST EN 301 002-3 V1.1.4:2005?

SIST EN 301 002-3 V1.1.4:2005 builds its test purposes from externally observable behaviour of the Implementation Under Test (IUT). In practice, that means the test cases focus on messages, states and responses that a lab can see on the interface.

Test Suite Structure and naming

Clause 4 groups the user test purposes into one test suite structure for signalling procedures at the coincident S and T reference point and for interworking with private ISDN. The groups are:

  • Registration - PIN
  • Notification of possible fraudulent use
    • PIN
    • TAN

Clause 5.1 defines the TP identifier format as <ss>_<iut><group>_<nnn>. This matters because ATS, test reports and PICS-based selection all rely on the same naming convention.

How the test purposes are built

Clause 5.1 says the TPs are based on EN 301 002-1 and on the PICS specification EN 301 002-2. The document also states that TPs are mandatory unless a selection criterion applies, and selection criteria must map to a PICS item. In practice, this lets a tester remove only the cases that the implementation has not claimed.

For the user TPs, the document assumes valid messages and information elements unless otherwise stated. It also specifies how FACILITY messages are transported, using the point-to-point connectionless bearer-independent mechanism with dummy call reference, or the broadcast mechanism where that applies. That is important because it fixes the test setup and the expected signalling path.

Main user procedures covered

The Registration - PIN tests in clause 5.2.1.1 cover ModifyPin behaviour. They check the normal invoke, the return result, several return error cases, and timer expiry in the Registrate Request state. In practice, this shows whether the implementation accepts valid PIN registration, rejects invalid data correctly, and reacts properly when the registration timer expires.

The Notification of possible fraudulent use tests in clause 5.2.1.3 check both PIN and TAN handling. The expected reaction is no outgoing message and remaining in Idle when a possible fraudulent use indication is received, with the Called Party Number condition depending on whether the multiple subscriber number service is present. This is the core user-side behaviour the standard wants to verify.

Compliance and testing service

Clause 6 says a compliant ATS must use the same naming conventions, preserve the relationship between test groups, TPs and PICS entries, and comply with ISO/IEC 9646-2. Clause 7 adds that a comprehensive testing service for network equipment shall use the Remote test method as a minimum. For users of the document, that defines how an executable test suite is assembled and how it is expected to be run.

What terms does SIST EN 301 002-3 V1.1.4:2005 define?

  • Abstract Test Suite (ATS) - the set of executable test cases derived from the test purposes.
  • Implementation Under Test (IUT) - the implementation being tested for conformance.
  • Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) - the declaration used to select which test purposes apply.
  • Protocol Implementation eXtra Information for Testing (PIXIT) - extra information needed to run the tests.
  • Test Purpose (TP) - a single stated objective for one test case.
  • Test Suite Structure (TSS) - the grouping of test purposes into suites and groups.
  • Personal Identification Number (PIN) - the security number used in the SET procedures for registration.
  • Transaction Number (TAN) - the transaction-related security value used in the SET procedures.

Who uses SIST EN 301 002-3 V1.1.4:2005?

SIST EN 301 002-3 V1.1.4:2005 is used by conformance test labs, protocol developers, and equipment vendors that implement SET over DSS1. Quality and compliance teams use it to plan ATS development, select test cases from a PICS, and check user-side behaviour at the T reference point or coincident S and T reference point.

It is also relevant to organizations that need to verify registration of PIN security, handling of fraudulent-use notifications, and the correct mapping between protocol behaviour and declared features.

What changed in SIST EN 301 002-3 V1.1.4:2005 from the previous edition?

SIST EN 301 002-3 V1.1.4:2005 is Version 1.1.4 of EN 301 002-3, and the history records an earlier Version 1.1.3. The document history also records the publication trail for Version 1.1.4.

Which standards are used with SIST EN 301 002-3 V1.1.4:2005?

  • ETSI EN 301 002-1 - the base protocol specification that the test purposes are derived from.
  • ETSI EN 301 002-2 - the PICS proforma used to determine which tests apply.
  • ISO/IEC 9646-1 - defines conformance testing concepts such as ATS, IUT, PICS and PIXIT.
  • ISO/IEC 9646-2 - gives the Abstract Test Suite specification rules used for compliance.
  • ETSI EN 300 196-1 - provides supplementary service protocol details used for components and transport mechanisms.
  • ITU-T Recommendation I.411 - defines ISDN user-network reference configurations.
  • ETSI EN 300 403-1 - provides DSS1 basic call control and the dummy call reference context.
  • ITU-T Recommendation I.112 - provides ISDN vocabulary and reference definitions.
  • ITU-T Recommendation E.164 - defines the numbering plan used for ISDN numbers.
  • ITU-T Recommendation I.210 - provides principles for telecommunication services supported by ISDN.
  • ETSI ETS 300 406 - gives testing methodology used when generating realistic, observable test purposes.
  • ETSI ETR 232 - provides security terminology, including PIN.
  • ETSI EN 301 132 - defines SET for telecommunication services, including security tool and TAN.

What does the SIST EN 301 002-3 V1.1.4:2005 document contain?

The document contains a figure for the test suite structure, a TP identifier scheme, and a table showing the structure of a single TP. It also contains the detailed user test purposes for PIN registration and for notifications of possible fraudulent use of PIN and TAN.

Clause 5.1 explains how TPs are named and structured, so a test team can trace a test case back to the base conformance requirement and the PICS selection. Clause 5.2.1 gives the actual message and state-based test purposes, while clauses 6 and 7 define how an ATS should be built and what a comprehensive testing service should use.
