General methods of test for pigments and extenders - Part 17: Comparison of lightening power of white pigments (ISO 787-17:2019)
This document specifies a general method of test for comparing the lightening (reducing) power of a
white pigment with the lightening power of an agreed sample of the same type.
Two procedures (A and B) are specified. Procedure A is quicker than procedure B and is suitable for
testing one sample of pigment; procedure B is better for testing several samples, and especially if a
pigment of unknown lightening power is being tested.

Dieses Dokument legt ein allgemeines Prüfverfahren zum Vergleichen des Aufhellvermögens eines
Weißpigmentes mit dem Aufhellvermögen einer vereinbarten Probe desselben Typs fest.
Es werden zwei Vorgehensweisen (A und B) festgelegt. Vorgehensweise A ist schneller als Vorgehensweise B
und eignet sich für die Prüfung einer Pigmentprobe; Vorgehensweise B ist besser für die Prüfung mehrerer
Proben, und besonders wenn ein Pigment mit unbekanntem Aufhellvermögen geprüft wird.

Le présent document spécifie une méthode générale d'essai pour comparer le pouvoir éclaircissant des pigments blancs au pouvoir éclaircissant d'un échantillon agréé de même type.
Deux modes opératoires (A et B) sont spécifiés. Le mode opératoire A est plus rapide que le mode opératoire B et convient pour essayer un échantillon de pigment. Le mode opératoire B est préférable pour essayer plusieurs échantillons et particulièrement si un pigment de pouvoir éclaircissant inconnu doit être essayé.

Ta dokument določa splošno metodo preskušanja za primerjavo moči posvetlitve (reduciranja) belega pigmenta s primerjavo moči posvetlitve dogovorjenega vzorca iste vrste.
Opisana sta dva postopka (A in B). Postopek A je hitrejši od postopka B in je primeren za
preskušanje enega vzorca pigmenta; postopek B je boljši za preskušanje več vzorcev, še posebej
za preskušanje pigmenta neznane moči posvetlitve.

This document (EN ISO 787-17:2019) has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 256
"Pigments, dyestuffs and extenders" in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 298 “Pigments
and extenders” the secretariat of which is held by DIN.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an
identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by November 2019, and conflicting national standards
shall be withdrawn at the latest by November 2019.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of

This document supersedes EN ISO 787-17:2017.

This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition (ISO 787-17:2002), of which it constitutes a
minor revision. The changes compared to the previous edition are as follows:
— Clause 3 on “Terms and definitions”, with a general reference to ISO 18451-1, has been added;
— CAS numbers have been added to the reagents;
— the text has been editorially revised.
