SIST EN 301 650 V1.2.1:2005 is the Slovenian standard identical to ETSI EN 301 650 V1.2.1 for Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT) Multimedia Access Profile (DMAP) and Application Specific Access Profile (ASAP). It specifies how DECT equipment combines DECT data services with Generic Access Profile (GAP) voice services, mainly for home and small office/home office (SOHO) use, so terminals can offer integrated voice-and-data operation.

What does SIST EN 301 650 V1.2.1:2005 specify?

SIST EN 301 650 V1.2.1:2005 defines a DECT data access profile that works together with DECT voice services. The profile is intended to give interoperable voice and data behaviour and to provide a common fallback option in compliant equipment.

The document is organized into clauses for scope, references, definitions, service objectives, relevant requirements, and profile-specific requirements, followed by normative annexes and an informative bibliography.

AnnexWhat it covers
Annex AOperating parameters
Annex BWireless LAN interworking conventions
Annex CWireless V.24 interworking conventions
Annex DDistributed communications

What are the key requirements of SIST EN 301 650 V1.2.1:2005?

SIST EN 301 650 V1.2.1:2005 builds on DECT base requirements and then narrows them for mixed voice and data terminals. In practice, a product claiming compliance must support the right DECT layers, the right profile options, and the right interworking behaviour for the applications it claims.

Base DECT and profile combination

Clause 5 says EN 300 176-1 applies in all cases. When voice services are provided, EN 300 176-2, EN 300 444, and EN 300 494 also apply. For Wireless V.24 and Wireless LAN, the profile uses the DPRS requirements for Class 2 equipment, with the modifications given in clause 6.

Application support and status handling

Clause 6.2.1 requires a compliant terminal to indicate and prove support for the application types it claims. The document uses status markings such as mandatory, optional, conditional, and out of scope, and it says optional elements remain process-mandatory. In practice, if a feature is implemented, it must behave exactly as specified and be testable.

Network layer behaviour

Clause 6.2.2 adapts DPRS network-layer features for Wireless V.24 and Wireless LAN. It covers outgoing and incoming calls, on-hook release, location registration, on-air key allocation, alerting, access-right termination, and authentication of the fixed part. This matters because the terminal has to handle call setup, registration, and security in the way the profile expects.

Management Entity decisions

Clause 6.3.2 assigns the Management Entity the task of choosing basic or advanced connections when no U-plane is needed. It also describes how paging is used for voice and data calls, and says service change is optional. In practice, implementers need to decide how a terminal behaves when a connection carries control only, or later needs user-plane traffic.

Subscription and capability declaration

Clause 6.3.5 allows only one subscription for both data and voice services. Portable parts must declare both services in the relevant Terminal capabilities information elements. This keeps voice and data registration aligned and avoids separate subscriptions for the same terminal.

Normative annex behaviour

Annex A limits operating parameters to DPRS Class 2. Annex B ties Wireless LAN to ISO/IEC 8802-3 (Ethernet) and marks Token Ring, IP and PPP as not required. Annex C makes V.24 the supported external protocol for Wireless V.24. Annex D applies the distributed communications requirements from EN 301 649.

What terms does SIST EN 301 650 V1.2.1:2005 define?

Application Specific Access Profile (ASAP) - The data access profile defined for DECT terminals in this document.

DECT Multimedia Access Profile (DMAP) - The profile that combines DECT data services with GAP voice services.

DECT Packet Radio Service (DPRS) - The DECT packet data profile that supplies the data-side requirements used here.

Generic Access Profile (GAP) - The DECT voice profile used as the voice counterpart in mixed terminals.

Wireless V.24 (WV.24) - The profile option for character-oriented interworking through V.24.

Wireless LAN (WLAN) - The profile option for LAN interworking, including Ethernet-based support.

Who uses SIST EN 301 650 V1.2.1:2005?

SIST EN 301 650 V1.2.1:2005 is used by DECT terminal designers, interoperability test teams, and product managers who need mixed voice-and-data DECT behaviour. It is relevant for equipment aimed at home and SOHO markets, including terminals that support voice calling, Wireless V.24, Wireless LAN, or distributed communications.

What changed in SIST EN 301 650 V1.2.1:2005 from the previous edition?

SIST EN 301 650 V1.2.1:2005 is an update that reflects changes introduced to EN 301 649 (DPRS) and EN 300 175 and resolves known problems.

Which standards are used with SIST EN 301 650 V1.2.1:2005?

EN 300 176-1 and EN 300 176-2 provide the DECT approval test specifications for radio and speech. EN 300 444 supplies the GAP voice requirements. EN 301 649 supplies the DPRS data requirements and the related annex conventions used throughout the profile.

ISO/IEC 8802-3 contributes the Ethernet physical and MAC basis used for Wireless LAN, and ISO/IEC 8802-5 is listed for Token Ring, although it is not required in the WLAN annex. ISO/IEC 9646-7 provides the conformance-testing notation behind the status symbols. EN 300 494 is the GAP profile test specification used alongside the voice profile.

What does the SIST EN 301 650 V1.2.1:2005 document contain?

The document contains a reference configuration figure for the DMAP profile and several requirement tables that map features and procedures to supported applications. It also contains clause-by-clause descriptions of NWK, DLC, MAC, and Management Entity behaviour for voice and data combinations.

Annex A gives operating-parameter support, Annex B gives Wireless LAN interworking rules, Annex C gives Wireless V.24 rules, and Annex D gives distributed communications requirements. Annex E is a bibliography for related DECT, OSI, and terminal-attachment standards.

1 Scope
The scope of the present document is to define a data Application Specific Access Profile (ASAP) intended mainly for
home and small office and home office (SOHO) markets combining a selection of DECT data services with DECT
voice services offered by Generic Access Profile (GAP), thereby allowing terminals to provide true integrated
multimedia services.
The aim of the present document is to guarantee a sufficient level of interoperability and to provide an easy route for
development of DECT data applications, with the features of the present document being a common fall-back option
available in all compliant to this profile equipment.

4 Service objectives
At the moment of drafting of the present document the post DECT base standard standardization work has for a long
time focused on two major streams of standards: a stream dealing with voice services and a stream dealing with data
services. This has reflected the two major spheres of interest of the DECT community:
- the voice media (e.g. transmission of voice over a wireless telephone equipment); a
