279 the specified terminal box and be provided with conductor terminals and bushings of the type used in service.
280 When only one of the termination samples is required to be tested in the terminal box (see 7.7), the remote
281 end of the test cable may be terminated by any suitable means.
282 6.6 Joints and stop ends
283 Joints and stop ends shall normally be designed and tested to withstand a height of water of 1 m (10 kPa
284 (0,1 bar)).
285 For special applications and in situations subject to a high water table or prone to flooding, this height of water
286 may be insufficient to ensure the satisfactory performance of the moisture seals. In such cases, upon
287 agreement between manufacturer and user, the accessories shall be tested using an increased water height
288 of 20 m (200 kPa (2,0 bar)).
289 The chosen water height shall be recorded in the test report.
290 Testing at one water height will achieve compliance for that pressure only. Testing at both 1 m and 20 m water
291 heights will achieve compliance for those water heights and all intermediate pressures.
292 Where a branch joint is being tested, only the main cable shall carry heating current.
293 6.7 Separable connectors
294 The cross-section of the test cable shall be as defined in Table 1.
295 Tests on separable connectors shall be performed with the separable connector installed on its mating
296 bushing.
297 Unscreened separable connectors shall be tested at the minimum phase-to-phase and phase-to-earth
298 clearances recommended by the manufacturer.

305 appropriate tests of Tables 2 to 5 on one of the cross-sections specified in 5.2.
306 For separable connectors, compliance for one type of accessory for the range of cable conductor cross-
307 sections given in Table 1A shall be obtained by successfully completing all the appropriate tests of Table 6 or 7
308 on the cross-section specified in Table 1.
309 Extension of range of compliance for the same type of accessory to larger or smaller cable conductor cross-
310 sections shall be obtained by successfully completing the additional test sequence in Table 9, on the
311 appropriate larger or smaller cross-section.
312 For extension of compliance of separable connectors to larger cable conductor cross-sections, the test current
313 shall be limited to the rating of the mating bushing.
314 Compliance shall extend to the use of an accessory on cables of the same U as the test cable but with greater

272 6.5 Terminal boxes
273 A termination intended to be used in a metallic terminal box shall normally be tested in the specified terminal
1
274 box, which shall conform to the relevant standards .
275 For practical reasons, it is permissible to carry out the tests with the terminations enclosed in a test terminal
276 box fabricated from rigid metallic mesh or from insulating material lined with metal foil. The box shall allow
277 humidity ingress.
278 The test terminal box shall be of the same shape and dimensions (e.g. creepage lengths and clearances) as
279 the specified terminal box and be provided with conductor terminals and bushings of the type used in service.

NOTE 1 The current value shall be sufficient to achieve the specified temperature
of the conductor, (see EN 61442:2005, 9.1).
NOTE 2 The use of the cross-sections in Table 1 may lead to over-heating of the
bushing while achieving the required conductor temperature. Under these
circumstances, it is permissible to use a conductor one size smaller. If bushing failure
occurs, the test will be declared void (see 9.3).

300 6.8 Test arrangements and number of samples
301 These are detailed in Figures 1 to 5.
302 7 Range of compliance
303 7.1 For terminations, joints and stop ends, compliance for one type of accessory for the range of cable
2 2
304 to 300 mm shall be obtained by successfully completing all the
conductor cross-sections from 95 mm
0
315 nominal insulation thickness. The converse shall not apply.
