Power cables having rated voltages from 3,6/6 (7,2) kV up to and including 20,8/36 (42) kV with special fire performance for use in power stations
HO 622 applies to rigid cables for fixed installations having rated voltages U.fU (Uml from 3.6/6 (7.2) kV up to and including 20.8/36 (42) kV used in systems of voltages not exceeding the maximum r.m.s. value of the system voltage Um.
NOTE: Section H of both Part 3 and Part 4 temporarily includes cables rated 1 .9/3.3 kV. It is intended to transfer these to another publication as soon as possible.
The insulation and sheaths may be either thermoplastic or thermosetting, halogenated or halogen free. The cables are mainly intended for use in power generating plants and sub-stations. All cables have specific fire performance requirements. Cables designed to be installed within the containment area of nuclear power plants (LOCA cables). or cables specifically designed to be radiation
resistant are not included in this HO.
This Part 1 specifies the general requirements applicable to these cables; additional or deviating requirements are given in the particular sections of this HO.
Test methods are specified in EN 60811, HO 21, HO 22, HO 383, HD 405, HO 602, HO 605 and HO 606, which are referenced in the particular sections where relevant.
The particular types of cables are specified in Parts 3 and 4.

Overview
HD 622 S1:1996 (CLC) specifies general requirements for power cables having rated voltages from 3,6/6 (7,2) kV up to and including 20,8/36 (42) kV with special fire performance for use in power stations. This Part 1 covers rigid cables for fixed installations in power generating plants and substations, setting out the baseline technical and safety criteria. Particular cable constructions and additional requirements are given in the related Parts 3 and 4.
Key topics and requirements
- Rated voltages and scope: Applies to cables for systems with voltages up to the maximum r.m.s. system value Um in the range 3.6/6 (7.2) kV to 20.8/36 (42) kV. (Note: sections H of Parts 3 and 4 temporarily include 1.9/3.3 kV.)
- Fire performance: All cables covered have defined, enhanced fire performance characteristics for safe operation in power stations (smoke, flame propagation and circuit integrity aspects are addressed in the particular parts).
- Materials: Insulation and sheaths may be thermoplastic or thermosetting, and either halogenated or halogen-free, enabling selection for fire safety and environmental preferences.
- Intended use and exclusions: Primarily for power generating plants and substations. Cables for nuclear containment (LOCA cables) or specifically radiation‑resistant types are excluded from this Part.
- Tests and verification: Test methods referenced include EN 60811, HO 21, HO 22, HO 383, HD 405, HO 602, HO 605 and HO 606; the particular sections indicate which tests apply to which cable types.
- Structure of the standard: Part 1 describes general requirements; Parts 3 and 4 specify particular cable types and any additional or deviating requirements.
