SIST EN 300 058-2 V1.2.4:2005 is the Slovenian adoption of the ETSI standard for the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) Call Waiting (CW) supplementary service using the Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. one (DSS1) protocol. It provides the Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) proforma that suppliers use to declare which CW features, options, timers and protocol items an implementation supports. The document is used for conformance claims to EN 300 058-1 and for static conformance review of user and network implementations.
What does SIST EN 300 058-2 V1.2.4:2005 specify?
SIST EN 300 058-2 V1.2.4:2005 specifies the PICS proforma for the stage three description of the CW supplementary service in ISDN over DSS1. It is the conformance questionnaire for the protocol specification in EN 300 058-1, so it helps a supplier state what the implementation supports and helps reviewers compare that statement with the standard.
The scope places the service at the T reference point or coincident S and T reference point, and it is written for implementations provided by European public telecommunications operators. The document is organized as a short front matter section, five main clauses, and three annexes.
| Annex | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Annex A | Normative PICS proforma, with instructions, identification fields, roles, user and network tables, parameters and timers |
| Annex B | Normative requirements list that links CW items to the basic call, generic functional protocol and supplementary service interactions PICS proformas |
| Annex C | Informative summary of changes from the previous ETS 300 058-2 |
What are the key requirements of SIST EN 300 058-2 V1.2.4:2005?
SIST EN 300 058-2 V1.2.4:2005 is mainly about how a supplier must complete a conformance statement, not about how the protocol works on the line. The most important requirements are in clause 5 and Annex A, with Annex B tying the CW PICS to related base PICS forms.
Conformance and completion
Clause 5 says a conforming PICS proforma has to be technically equivalent to Annex A and must keep the numbering and order of the items in that annex. In practice, this means the form structure is fixed, so conformance checks can compare like with like.
Clause 5 also says a conforming PICS must describe an implementation that claims conformance to EN 300 058-1, be completed according to the instructions in A.1, and identify both the supplier and the implementation. For a buyer, tester or auditor, that means the completed form must make it clear exactly which product or system is being declared.
What must be filled in
Annex A requires identification of the Implementation Under Test (IUT), the System Under Test (SUT), the product supplier, the client, and a PICS contact person. It also asks for the relationship between the PICS and the System Conformance Statement (SCS). In practice, this gives traceability: who made the declaration, what product it covers, and whom to contact with questions.
Annex A.5 contains the global statement of conformance. If the answer is yes, the remaining subclauses are used to help select optional test cases. If the answer is no, unsupported mandatory capabilities have to be identified and explained. This matters because the PICS is not just a checklist - it is the basis for deciding whether an implementation is conforming.
Roles and implementation type
Table A.1 defines the role structure. The implementation is classified as supporting user requirements, network requirements, or both, and it also distinguishes operation at the coincident S and T reference point from interworking with private ISDNs at the T reference point. This determines which parts of the proforma apply, so the wrong role choice would lead to an incomplete declaration.
User-side capabilities
For user implementations, Annex A covers major capabilities such as requesting a specific channel in the CONNECT message, using the release procedure to free resources, using call hold to free resources, rejecting the call, and providing notifications when the service provider is on a private ISDN. It also covers the notification indicator information element and the T-CW timer. In practice, a user-side supplier has to state which of these behaviors the equipment supports.
Network-side capabilities
For network implementations, Annex A covers call offering procedures, call confirmation procedures, call waiting acceptance procedures, acceptance of notifications when the served user is on a private ISDN, and provision of notifications. It also covers received and transmitted notification indicator values and the T-CW timer. In practice, this tells a network supplier what has to be declared for the network side of CW handling.
Linked requirements in Annex B
Annex B is a requirements list that repeats selected items from the basic call, generic functional protocol, and supplementary service interactions PICS proformas. It links CW declarations to EN 300 403-3, EN 300 196-2 and EN 300 195-2. This matters because a CW implementation may rely on those related PICS forms for the base call and for interactions with other supplementary services.
What terms does SIST EN 300 058-2 V1.2.4:2005 define?
Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) - A statement by the supplier that identifies which capabilities have been implemented for a given OSI protocol.
PICS proforma - A questionnaire prepared by the protocol specifier that becomes the PICS when it is completed for a specific implementation.
Static conformance review - A review that compares the completed PICS with the static conformance requirements in the relevant standards.
Implementation Under Test (IUT) - The implementation being assessed for conformance.
System Under Test (SUT) - The system in which the IUT resides.
Call Waiting (CW) - The ISDN supplementary service covered by the standard.
Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. one (DSS1) - The signalling protocol used for the ISDN CW supplementary service.
Who uses SIST EN 300 058-2 V1.2.4:2005?
SIST EN 300 058-2 V1.2.4:2005 is used by suppliers of ISDN equipment and software that claim conformance to the CW protocol specification in EN 300 058-1. It is also used by test labs and conformance engineers who perform static conformance review, because the completed PICS is the basis for selecting and checking test coverage.
The document is relevant to both user implementations and network implementations, including private network implementations where the user clause applies. It is also useful to telecommunications quality and procurement teams that need a structured declaration of supported CW behavior, timers and interactions with related ISDN functions.
What changed in SIST EN 300 058-2 V1.2.4:2005 from the previous edition?
The document states that it is a conversion to EN layout and that references to ETS 300 102 and associated I-ETSs were replaced with EN 300 403. It also says that non-specific references to basic standards were updated where the intention was to refer to the latest version. The foreword adds that this version updates the references to the basic call specifications.
Which standards are used with SIST EN 300 058-2 V1.2.4:2005?
The standard is used together with EN 300 058-1, which contains the CW protocol specification that the PICS refers to. EN 300 403-1 and EN 300 403-3 support the basic call part of the DSS1 framework and its PICS proforma, while EN 300 196-1 and EN 300 196-2 cover the generic functional protocol and its PICS proforma. EN 300 195-1 and EN 300 195-2 cover supplementary service interactions and their PICS proforma.
ISO/IEC 9646-1 provides the general conformance testing framework, and ISO/IEC 9646-7 gives the rules for implementation conformance statements. CCITT Recommendation I.130 is used for the characterization of telecommunication services, and ITU-T Recommendation I.411 gives the ISDN user-network reference configurations.
What does the SIST EN 300 058-2 V1.2.4:2005 document contain?
The document contains a short normative text plus structured tables that a supplier completes. Annex A provides the PICS questionnaire with identification fields, a global conformance statement, role selection, user and network capability tables, parameter values, timers and call-state-related items.
Annex B provides the linked requirements list for the base PICS proformas used by basic call, generic functional protocol and supplementary service interactions. Annex C gives the change summary relative to the previous ETS version. The main clauses also include definitions, symbols and abbreviations, and the conformance clause that sets the rules for a valid PICS.

Foreword
This European Standard (Telecommunications series) has been produced by ETSI Technical Committee Signalling
Protocols and Switching (SPS).
The present document is part 2 of a multi-part standard covering the Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. one
(DSS1) protocol specification for the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) Call Waiting (CW) supplementary
service, as described below:
Part 1: "Protocol specification";
Part 2: "Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) proforma specification";
Part 3: "Test Suite Structure and Test Purposes (TSS&TP) specification for the user";
Part 4: "Abstract Test Suite (ATS) and partial Protocol Implementation eXtra Information for Testing (PIXIT)
proforma specification for the user";
Part 5: "Test Suite Structure and Test Purposes (TSS&TP) specification for the network";
Part 6: "Abstract Test Suite (ATS) and partial Protocol Implementation eXtra Information for Testing (PIXIT)
proforma specification for the network".
To evaluate conformance of a particular implementation, it is necessary to have a statement of which capabilities and
options have been implemented for a given Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) protocol. Such a statement is called a
Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS).
The present version updates the references to the basic call specifications.

1 Scope
This second part of EN 300 058 is applicable to the stage three of the Call Waiting (CW) supplementary service for the
pan-European Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) as provided by European public telecommunications
operators at the T reference point or coincident S and T reference point (as defined in ITU-T Recommendation
I.411 [11]) by means of the Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. one (DSS1) protocol. Stage three identifies the
protocol procedures and switching functions needed to support a telecommunications service (see CCITT
Recommendation I.130 [10]).
The present document provides the Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) proforma for the ISDN
DSS1 CW supplementary service protocol as specified in EN 300 058-1 [1] in compliance with the relevant
requirements and in accordance with the relevant guidance given in ISO/IEC 9646-7 [9].
The supplier of a protocol implementation which is claimed to conform to EN 300 058-1 [1] is required to complete a
copy of the PICS proforma provided in annex A of the present document and is required to provide the information
necessary to identify both the supplier and the implementation.
