Cable networks for television signals, sound Signals and interactive services - Part 2-3: LTE (4G) Interference Mitigation Filters
This Technical Specification provides requirements to passive filters intended to reduce RF interference from LTE Base Stations (LTE-BS) and LTE User Equipment (LTE-UE) to receiving equipment and cable distribution systems of broadcast DVB-T and DVB-T2 signals in the VHF and UHF bands. While primarily intended to be used with VHF/UHF DVB-T and DVB-T2 receivers and signal distribution systems, filters can also be useful for mitigation of interference to VHF FM or DAB radio.

General Information
Overview
The SIST-TS CLC/TS 50083-2-3:2019 Technical Specification addresses LTE (4G) interference mitigation filters designed for cable networks transmitting television signals, sound signals, and interactive services. Published by CLC, this specification defines passive filter requirements that reduce RF interference from LTE base stations (LTE-BS) and LTE user equipment (LTE-UE) affecting broadcast digital video broadcasting signals, particularly DVB-T and DVB-T2, in the VHF and UHF bands. While primarily targeting television reception and distribution systems, these filters also benefit mitigation efforts for interference impacting VHF FM and DAB radio reception.
This standard is essential to ensure compatibility and quality in cable networks by protecting sensitive broadcast signals from LTE-related RF disruptions, improving the reliability and performance of broadcast reception and signal distribution systems.
Key Topics
Scope
Defines filter requirements to attenuate LTE signals in the 791 MHz to 862 MHz band (the LTE stop-band), while maintaining the integrity of TV broadcast frequencies (the pass-band), typically between 0 Hz and about 790 MHz.LTE Filter Characteristics
- Pass-band covers a range of VHF/UHF TV channels, ensuring low attenuation within 0 – 790 MHz.
- Stop-band is divided in two: 791–821 MHz for LTE Base Stations, and 832–862 MHz for LTE User Equipment.
- Three filter types defined based on attenuation performance and applications:
- Standard 1: Professional-grade for large cable networks with amplifiers.
- Standard 2: Consumer-oriented for single or simple passive distribution systems.
- Standard 3: Typical filter for Master Antenna Television (MATV) systems.
- Filters have 75 Ω nominal impedance and specific insertion loss, return loss, amplitude response variation, and group delay criteria.
Construction and Environmental Requirements
- Connectors must comply with IEC and EN standards (female IEC type or Type-F coaxial connectors).
- Filters must provide EMC screening effectiveness compliant with EN 50083-2 standards.
- Designed to operate reliably across a range of temperatures (-10°C to +50°C for outdoor, -5°C to +45°C for indoor).
- Filters incorporate internal resistors to prevent static charge buildup.
- Design includes robustness requirements such as drop tests for consumer models and mounting/fixing provisions.
Manufacturers’ Information Disclosure
Clear reporting on pass-band and stop-band frequency ranges, filter standard classification, environmental suitability, connector types, and electrical characteristics is mandatory for compliance and user guidance.
Applications
SIST-TS CLC/TS 50083-2-3:2019 filters are critical in maintaining high-quality broadcasting environments where LTE 4G mobile networks share spectral resources close to TV broadcast bands. Their practical applications include:
Cable TV Distribution Systems
Protecting DVB-T and DVB-T2 signal distribution networks in urban and rural areas from LTE interference to ensure consistent television reception quality.MATV Installations
Enhancing signal reliability in multiple dwelling units or communal antenna setups by mitigating LTE-related RF noise.Broadcast Reception Equipment
Ensuring VHF and UHF broadcast receivers operate without signal degradation caused by nearby LTE transmissions.Radio Broadcasting Protection
Although focused on TV signals, these filters also assist in reducing interference to VHF FM and DAB radio reception in affected regions.Consumer Electronics
Integrating Standard 2 type filters in consumer premises to provide simple yet effective LTE interference protection for individual receivers.
Related Standards
This technical specification complements and references several key standards to ensure interoperability and compliance:
- EN 50083-2:2012 - Electromagnetic compatibility requirements for cable network equipment.
- EN 60728-11 - Safety requirements for cable networks for television and sound signals.
- EN 61169-2 and EN 61169-24 - Radio-frequency coaxial connectors standards for types IEC and F used in filter connections.
- EN 60529:1991 (IEC 60529) - Degrees of protection (IP Code) ensuring environmental sealing of enclosure designs.
- IEC 60728 series and EN 50083 series - Covering cable network methods, equipment, and measurement techniques related to signal distribution and interference mitigation.
By implementing the SIST-TS CLC/TS 50083-2-3:2019 standard, manufacturers and network operators can effectively minimize LTE-induced interference, protecting broadcast signal integrity, ensuring compliance with electromagnetic compatibility regulations, and enhancing end-user experience in cable television and radio signal environments.

Introduction
Standards and deliverables of EN 60728 series and EN 50083 series deal with cable networks including
equipment and associated methods of measurement for headend reception, processing and distribution of
television and sound signals and for processing, interfacing and transmitting all kinds of data signals for
interactive services using all applicable transmission media. These signals are typically transmitted in
networks by frequency-multiplexing techniques.
This includes for instance:
a) regional and local broadband cable networks;
b) extended satellite and terrestrial television distribution systems;
c) individual satellite and terrestrial television receiving systems;
and all kinds of equipment, systems and installations used in such cable networks, distribution and receiving
systems.
The extent of this standardization work is from the antennas and/or special signal source inputs to the
headend or other interface points to the network up to the terminal input of the customer premises
equipment.
The standardization work will consider coexistence with users of the RF spectrum in wired and wireless
transmission systems.
The standardization of any user terminals (i.e. tuners, receivers, decoders, multimedia terminals etc.) as well
as of any coaxial, balanced and optical cables and accessories thereof is excluded.
