BRIEF HISTORY
The IS0 Recommendation R 1342, Oil of rosemary, was drawn up by Technical Committee ISO/TC 54,
Essential oils, the Secretariat of which is held by the RepartiçHo de Normalizaçao (IGPAI).
Work on this question led to the adoption of Draft IS0 Recommendation No. 1342, which was circulated
to all the IS0 Member Bodies for enquiry in September 1967. It was approved, subject to a few modifications of
an editorial nature, by the following Member Bodies :

Canada Japan lJnited Kingdom
Czechoslovakia Netherlands U.S.S.R.
France Portugal Yugoslavia
No Member Body opposed the approval of the Draft.
This Draft IS0 Recommendation was then submitted by correspondence to the IS0 Council, which decided
to accept it as an IS0 RECOMMENDATION.

This IS0 Recommendation specifies certain characteristics of oil of rosemary, with a view to facilitating the
appreciation of its quality.
2. DEFINITION
Oil of rosemary. The oil obtained by steam distillation of the twigs and blossoming tips of Rosmerinus officirialis L.

La Recommandation ISO/R 1342, Huile essentielle de romarin, a été élaborée par le Comité Technique iSO/TC 54.
Huiles essentielles, dont le Secrétariat est assuré par la Repartiçao de Normalizaçio (IGPAI).
Les travaux relatifs à cette question aboutirent à l’adoption du Projet de Recommandation 1SO No 1342, qui
fut soumis, en septembre 1967, à l’enquête de tous les Comités Membres de IWO. I1 fut approuvé, sous réserve de
quelques modifications d’ordre rédactionnel, par les Comités Membres suivants :
